A serious question - as someone who will always have a game of Word Up if it's there but for leisure reasons rather than any serious chance of big dosh (my personal best score is still only in the 1700s :o ops: ):

Are you guys just excited to see it back at all or would you only be excited if it had returned in 'payout mode'?

The reason I ask is that the two updated boxes I saw last night did both have Word Soup but in both cases it was clearly in non-payout mode, i.e. the required score for £1 was around 1500-1600 but the top scores on the table were only around 1000, including quite a few of the default names and scores (LUGGAGE, SUPATEE etc), meaning that no one had beaten me to the easy money.

I'm very happy to see it back, regardless of there being easy winnings or not.

That the £1 can so often be at 1600 despite there having been no clearances on a machine is rather unfair on local players.

Got a 2110 first go this morning on a machine with top score <1000 (with more than 10 games played) and won £3 - this is ridiculous!

Mebbe the freakish ceiling scores in the national competition have given the operators an excuse to set the jackpot at 2500.

That's the point I'm making - when a "world class" score only wins £3, it can't be much cause for financial excitement, but I can see that simply having it back in what is still the most common cabinet must be pleasing.

I suppose I'm quite mercenary but there are very few games I miss that weren't financial payers and when lucrative games have returned in non-paying mode, as does happen sometimes, I never bother with the revised version once it's obvious what has happened. There's actually a classic example of this at the moment...

What the fuck is this piece of shit doing back on? It appears to have a new dictionary which accepts the following words:

Blah
Blah
Word
Fucking
Up
Come
In
My
Pants
Sez
Istenem
Stupid punters. Telly all the week, screw the wife Saturday

I for one am glad to see it back regardless of what score is required to hit prizes (within reason obviously).

Although 1600 is a bit of a harsh starting point for a fresh machine, at least it displays the requirement at the start so if a player feels that's out of reach then it's only a 50p cost.

One thing I'm less happy to see is a possible new bug, I don't know if it is across all games or just word soup, but twice last night on different machines midway through games the screen went blank and kicked me back to the menu page. Has anyone else experienced this? It's the first time I've had this particular kind of 'crash' and it seemed odd that it happened twice in one night shortly after the game was put back on the box.

i have been coming in my pants all week.

if your hobby is football, you might look forward to the beginning of the new season. after having made do with the african cup of nations during the summer, it is good to see something back which is similar but better.

if your hobby is edifying wordgames then WU is the premiership and scrabble/word blox are pre-season friendlies against afc goole and barnstaple town. you should win (by) much more but it doesn't stretch you or give any real sense of achievement.
nobody ever wins on those things.

Scooped a massive £2 with score of 20xx on a Souped-up IT Box yesterday. Also got QUIZZICALITIES but since I would not have thought of that as a word had I not read it here, a rather empty achievement...

[Oh - and what Istenem said about WU/Wordblox etc.]

It's back! That's worthy of my first post in about a year! Also means I might actually start playing the game again
