each to their own. i won't weep a foolish tear if it has gone but i can appreciate that other people may have liked it.

Played a couple of updated IBs today and it looks like TXF has gone, doesn't it? Kind of expected but at the same time disappointing. I was never a fan of (i.e. much cop at) TXF version 1 but version 2 was a very generous payer from the day it appeared - for me, definitely one of the SWP highlights of the last few years. Let's hope it kicks around for a little bit longer on GamesNets and Ind:es.

(As for the updated IBs, I didn't look at what passes for new stuff very closely, but nothing looked very exciting on first glance. Oh well, there's still one or two decent things on there, and I've not immediately spotted decent stuff before.)

Why do you hate it? If it's ready and you need say 7/10 or 8/11 or 12 to get through then you can fly through if you are intelligible. A keeper for me anyway.

I have seen about eight like this today so looks like a general network update although there is no issue number. They all had Big Reds on the front screen :(

Probably is - the new ones I saw last night had Scrabble on them.

Reflecting on the new ItBox line-up, it's a pretty pathetic update really isn't it? Just two new items by my count: DOND Big Reds, which is about as rubbishy a game as has ever graced an SWP, and Word Blox, so yet another word game. No substantive new quiz game at all.

Going by that, two games must have gone - one is clearly TXF but I'm not sure what the other is (I may be being stupid here, but if anyone has worked it out do post and tell). Overall, then, this is barely more of an update than the quasi-update when the Great Pretender got taken off. There remains at least three reasons why the ItBox remains better than it was pre-issue 54, but equally a lot of the decent stuff that's been added in issues 54 and 55 has now gone. :-(

I anticipate the time I spend SWPing taking a sharp decline for a while...

Ever a man to spot a trend (and occasionally to get one right  ) I'd say that we'll soon be looking back on issues 54 and 55 as something of a golden period. All the current themes seem negative to me:

(i) the rapid removal of two big payers - The Great Pretender and The X Factor, which weren't even allowed to survive until the next major version

(ii) pseudo-skill rubbish appearing more and more - Great Escape, Toss the Monkey and now worst of all DOND Big Reds

(iii) £1-only games that haven't been made more lucrative to compensate for the increased stake

(iv) very little of interest reported in the new games at ATEI

(v) the de facto death of a classic game (Millionaire)

The first of these is the most serious but all in all I think the SWP Barometer is definitely heading back towards 'Bleak'...

Both Take It or Leave It and Hell's Bells have also received 'attention'.

There is a definite trend with this ItBox update.
