I'd not agree with this strategy - I've recently had a situation where I had a low £8.50ish win on the £1 game and then a very high £9ish win chance (I f**ked it up) on the 50p game. £9's not to be sniffed at, I'd say.QuizMaster wrote:They appear to be separate to me as well, although I have stopped playing the 50p game altogether.

Each to his own. My view is that since it's quite difficult to win anyway I don't want to waste a good game only winning a potential maximum of £10.
Has anybody won by trying to guess the box in the prize round? My suspicious nature and personal pride at taking on the questions prevents me from doing this. I suspect Nil Satis will be on later telling us that it's a 1 in 6 chance and it only happens 1 in 100 or something.

Stupid punters. Telly all the week, screw the wife Saturday
Ahem...

Obviously if the game is fair you'd have a 1 in 6 chance of guessing the correct vault on your first attempt. On my first few goes at this (all losing) I became convinced that the winning vault was always the one at the end on the right but clearly that isn't the case.
Personally I'm with you in that I'd never guess, particularly on the last go - if a guess without seeing the question is a 50-50 chance then the minimum chance you will get after seeing the question is still 50-50 (for a question you have absolutely no idea about), and of course you hope to improve those odds by using your knowledge, so why guess? I've also noticed that the final question isn't necessarily a stinker - I had one recently about whether Charles Dickens wrote a certain book.
One or two new games (including this one) are even tempting me to leave my comfy chair in the Retirement Home for Curmudgeonly Quiz Machine Players...

I'd never guess on TIOLI. When the endgame questions are as fair and reasonable as they generally are, at least on virgin machines, why bother? That said I am f**king up the fifth question more often than probability would suggest. Another two times this lunchtime brings it to six or seven times overall. A £17 on the £1 game and £9.60 shot (f**ked up) on the 50p game once again suggest separate banks.

LOL presumably pun intended I am quite enjoying the CC style one but yesterday did actually play CC after the hell thingy and my timing was all out. In the latter you have to swing much later and hit the ball lower in its trajectory.QuizMaster wrote:I wonder what the devil the other game could be?
The CC however had fortunately somehow miraculously been refreshed to the 1400 mark (Grecian- I have not been in my work local for over a week but as I am sure had previously had the £20 can only assume someone absolutely caned it to get the prizes back down, landlord did say a lot of people had been playing the machine over last week which was substantiated by a huge number of scores on Pairz)

i played this at lunchtime. it gave me 0 lives.
first game i crapped out on the very first question (wasn't concentrating properly and didn't realise that i would lose so quickly).
second game i crapped out on the very first question (a complicated chemistry question about valencies).
has one of you rotters been on my turf again?
so i went to a different pub which had a paragon and that was behaving itself.
i will take myself to some sleepy backwater and give it a fair crack of the whip over the weekend.

Well, the early instances I saw of HB were far more hellishly difficult than the general release so that has been a pleasant surprise. I am still having cross words with another new game in that I've not found any low-hanging fruit on my admittedly far from extensive travels but I am assured it is worth persevering with. Just to prove that it's horses for courses though, I still can't get anything worthwhile out of grecian's favourite little earner, no matter how many times I give it a whirl...QuizMaster wrote:I wonder what the devil the other game could be?
I've been focusing on the local 54 ItBoxes Hornby so haven't darkened the Dev over the past week or so. Good work on timing your visit right - did you manage to JP Capers again? (I think it must have you who 20ed it previously as the only one I've done in the City was Ryan's Bar.)Northern Monkey wrote: The CC however had fortunately somehow miraculously been refreshed to the 1400 mark (Grecian- I have not been in my work local for over a week but as I am sure had previously had the £20 can only assume someone absolutely caned it to get the prizes back down, landlord did say a lot of people had been playing the machine over last week which was substantiated by a huge number of scores on Pairz)
Sounds like someone had emptied this one UP. Which venue? I've only been operating in the City really but even mere aspirants to real boy-dom / terminatorship are going to realise pretty quickly that the likes of Hell's Bells / TIOLI / Crossword Quiz are well worth looking at.Sue Denim wrote:i played this at lunchtime. it gave me 0 lives.

Perhaps someone else in Oxford has been raiding same, Nil Satis. In fairness though, whilst it is a "little earner" I've only JPed it once and £5 would therefore represent par for me. Compared to the new product on 54, that's gash. Put it this way; I haven't been near a non-ItBox all week.Nil Satis wrote:Just to prove that it's horses for courses though, I still can't get anything worthwhile out of grecian's favourite little earner, no matter how many times I give it a whirl...

i played a few games of this (on an unbummed machine) and agree it is good and fair (except the double boobies). personally i do not have the level of knowledge to win consistently on this but i can see the attraction and munificence.
but boys and superboys, get there quick. mug punters are not going to play this; in commercial terms it is a "loss leader". it won't be on 55.
the game takes SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOO LLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG. mugs will play one game, become hugely bored and go back to japseye or DOND.
the theory is excellent for us but clowns will only give it 50p; how about a clone which is quicker? that might appeal across the board.
