Glasgow's not my circuit, I live in London. It was just an example of a big city, which really doesn't have enough quiz machines in it. Carlisle, a city of 100k, certainly doesn't. I do know how to find quiz machines. And I seriously doubt there are as many Paragons as Itboxes, or only twice as many Itboxes as Gamesenets. Where do you get those figures from?Properpro wrote:Dear dmac07, we must stop meeting like this!![]()
Seriously, I do try to be helpful. I can assure you I'm not Quizmaster, and if he he is playing X Factor or anything else to the standard he claims, he isn't playing them anywhere I've been!!
As I'm told there are circa 10,000 It Boxes, 10,000 Paragon's, 5,000 Games Nets, 4,000 Indies, etc, etc, I suppose there is no reason he or I should have ever had met, or even 'crossed swords'.
I appreciate your comments about your 'circuit' of Glasgow, but there are over 200 British cities and towns with populations over 100,000 and lots of suitable pubs. Look on the Cloud, print a site map and then find extra machines as you go. That should see you through a year or two without worrying about returning too soon!
As I've indicated we are coming at this from different angles and for different reasons, but believe me Glasgow, or even London are only 'obvious' targets. There are machines in every nook and cranny and a lot of them present very easy targets.
The general view that nobody can make machines 'pay' is so in error, but in twenty years of playing I've yet to meet a single person that believes jackpots can be regularly won - until they see it happen.![]()

There have definitely been 10000+ itboxes installed. Not surprising given the number of wetherspoons & yateses, most of which have between 2 & 4. I doubt anyone in here would agree with you "both" that there as many Paragons as Itboxes. They're common enough but I've never even seen one pub with more than one of the things. Gamesnets are a dying breed (or an "endangered species" as you called them). For every two itboxes there's one Gamesnet?? Really?QuizMaster wrote:Whoever "Properpro" is, he knows his stuff. I've got the same feel regarding numbers of machines on site. 10 minutes £20 - work it out
The figures I was given came from an interested 'spectator' who claimed he worked 'in the industry', I've quoted them but don't really care about them being precise.
I'm off to Banbury today. Cloud says eight It Boxes, I know there are twelve, three Gamesnets, two Indies. At this time I don't bother with Paragons, so I couldn't attempt their numbers.
Seventeen machines give or take as many as four of five 'coming and going'. Too many for me to play in truth, but I won't return for the stragglers for some considerable time, if at all. I have a personal 'site book' with some 1200 entries, there really are too many machines to play!
Scepticism is negative but I suppose it has its place, believe what you will.
Money goes in, just know how to take it out.

Ive brought it up before but since you are new to the site unless youve changed your log in name, many years ago in Woking I bumped into a bloke who travelled around the country by train playing machines from Birmingham , featured on Breakfast Time, had worked in Local Government . Have you heard of him. probably in his 50's.
Gamesnets are dying gradually because for some reason Gamestec have stopped manufacturing them according to a source at their head office. Perfect business logic develop a far superior machine to Itbox then pull the plug on it. Gamestec are supplying Paragons to pubs presumably as they havent Gamesnets to go round. If a publican gives you grief in a pub with 2+ machines stating not happy me winning as they dont take much money ask why he has two of them!

I'd agree with the comments that machines pop up in the most unexpected places.
The Cloud website's a useful start but really the only way to do it is by hitting the ground and having a proper look in pubs. I've lost count of the number of times I've found machines in the most surprising places. A recent example was a GamesNet in one of the most old-fashioned country pubs in a village in Norfolk dominated by religious shrines (enough clues for you to work it out should you be bothered!) You also need to look properly in pubs - so often machines are kept upstairs or downstairs or out of sight of the front door or windows (and of course those are the machines least likely to have been spotted by a passing QM or properpro!)
I agree with the comments that even a town of, say, 100k, will have stacks of machines. I know two such towns very well - one my home town in SE England, one my wife's home town in the North Midlands. Both have at least 10-15 machines that I know of instantly, and I reckon if I had the time/inclination I could find another 5-10 in each town within a day. I doubt the population of either town is far north of 70k.
Someone with a car, time, the ability to bankroll some losses while bringing their machine play up to the next level (as QM has done with X Factor), and natural aptitude in the first place could, I believe, earn their keep from machines, but as noted it would (a) be bloody boring; (b) necessitate spending 60 to 70 hours a week at it; and (c) probably not bring in much more than £20-£25k per year at best, I reckon.

Is it just me or is that Cloud website difficult to navigate? Is there actually a page that lists the machines in a place?
Oh, and fair play to QM for going for X Factor. In tribute I had one go yesterday and couldn't bear it. Seeing Cowell all day every day is more than I could bear, even for 20 notes! (Mind you I've put up with 'Dr' Fox and Noel Blobby Edmonds!!) I hate the game as much as I hate the programme.

There used to be a PDF list of ItBoxes available but someone recently pointed out to me that it seems to have disappeared. (I didn't think to save it to my own system, regrettably.) I don't like the search engine currently on there, I must say.rogerthymes wrote:Is it just me or is that Cloud website difficult to navigate? OK I was assuming given the margins involved that it's not worth your while travelling. But if you or whoever is getting 20 quid from every X Factor then fair enough.Properpro wrote:The figures I was given came from an interested 'spectator' who claimed he worked 'in the industry', I've quoted them but don't really care about them being precise.

My hometown is Carlisle and it's got one of virtually every chain pub with a few itboxes in unusual places (one in the bowling alley, one in the motorway services etc). At least 15 in all - no different from most small-medium size towns I imagine so you may be alright
I am new to this forum, although I have been aware of it for some time.cool wrote:Ive brought it up before but since you are new to the site unless youve changed your log in name, many years ago in Woking I bumped into a bloke who travelled around the country by train playing machines from Birmingham , featured on Breakfast Time, had worked in Local Government . Assumed I'd met most 'local' pros in my time, but I know only one pro-player who suits some of your criteria. Ex-Local Government, (gave up work to play) and now in his late 50's. This man is a 'terminator', of a standard that would totally confuse 98.5% of Fruitchat. A nemesis to me certainly. but I'm sure however he has never used trains,(too tight). Pretty positive he wasn't on Breakfast Time, he'd have said!
Still proves it may be a small world, but there are lots of machines and players. Now I'm intrigued!
