nice to read something entertaining rather than self-congratulatory for a change. good stuff, rnst ;)
hard lines about the word, bittersweet i'd imagine. i've cocked up that word before too (by dimwittedly using the H).
i've decided that my crowning glory of the G~ should be GRANDILOQUENT(LY) and this has hamstrung any flourishes i might have made. spoils from about 20 games at the weekend was one 11 and two <1840, >1850 :|

but i agree that the threads should only highlight superhuman wordupmanship and not the workaday.

[quote="&quot"]So, after the initial merriment of being liberated from the oppression of the anonymous WORDUP, it has now sunk in that one dictatorship has been replaced with another.

However, given we were only in Nottingham for a day some of the scores on some machines might not be too astronomical.

Man you guys have got to win the award for most benignly pompous verbose dictators of the year. Youre funny with it though so cant knock you. Too much :D

Btw, and just so you can puff your chests out some more my highest score is 1650 clearance. for which a mighty quid was the reward. And I would retire if I got astronomical (400)

Lol!
(or is that a bit colloquial for this board? And on that topic, has anyone ever attempted or even succeeded in making COLLOQUIALISMS or a derivative of?)

EWQ, I have to admit I've been guilty of dragging this thread down into the morass of reporting QUIZZICALs etc. because I do try and report every single one of my website-qualifying efforts. I can revert to updating you by email if such behaviour is frowned upon, which it seems to be.

I see MEZZANINES has been got again! No sooner had I picked it out as a never-before-achieved but relatively achievable word, and put it among my targets (alongside EXOTHERMICALLY and EXQUISITELY) than it was scored twice in a week.
I wait with baited breath for news of the debut outing for EXOTHERMICALLY in the next few days!

Word-up has recently appeared in a bar in Crieff, and after winning a few quid on a freshly-installed Cavemen Capers, I returned from the toilet to find Gran happily starting a game of Word-up (with my money), cleverly getting rid of the low-value letters first and pulling out such beauties as SET. I shoved him out the way - which he took great umbrage to. He then proceeded to mock and deride every word I laid down, especially the ones which weren't really words.

Thankfully, with a profusions of Q's, I managed to shut out his mockery and got enough time to clear with about 1795. Not a great score (for you chaps), but just enough to earn me my first Word Up jackpot!

About 1500 usually, for £10. We've managed to get it a few times as a team, but never solo - good luck!

I defended my WU belt last night, against Oxford player DJG ('MESSIAH'), on a Paragon (old word list), with both players being a little worse for wear:

1) 1670 - 1068 (1-0 to me) 2) 1088 - 411 (2-0) 3) 1855 - 802 (3-0)
4) 1233 - 1006 (4-0)
