I was tempted to copy and paste the words to Tom Lehrer's The Elements, but I'll instead guess.... Bromine

Damn, I was expecting at least one person to say "Mercury" (80), so I could do some QI-style "obvious answer" whoops. Never mind.
Bromine (35) it is! His Eminence completes his hat trick and gets the next Q...

I was a bit of a geek about Chemistry at school. Sadly, I didn't do it at uni. I did French instead. Look where that got me (actually, I suppose the rank of Cardinal is quite high, so I won't complain too much).
Very quick question. Why am I off work today?

Nope. I'm in the rudest of health. In fact, I'm about to embark on a pre-emptive Christmas shop, which will probably dampen both my ardour for Christmas and life in general.
A clue: everyone in my work is off. And it's not for excessive internet use either.

Another cracking guess.
Another clue: Both our Irish and English offices are beavering away feverishly.

Crikey.
I thought this one was going to take seconds.
Today isn't actually a public holiday. Although the Scottish Parliament recently voted that it should be made a public holiday, although only at the expense of another bank holiday.

Okay, yesterday (Nov 30th) was St Andrew's day. But what
other official occasion was it? There are quite a few, but I'm looking for one in particular (given the weather here recently
)
