Re: by the by
Sounds like what they do in chess occasionally where a grandmaster will play multiple games at the same timeunknownpseudonym wrote: you beat jake jacobs at scrabble or are they woefully poor WU scores? the syntax of your post has thrown me.
Re: by the by
Sorry, I meant to say 'UK Scrabble no.1' - ie the top-rated Brit player.unknownpseudonym wrote: you beat jake jacobs at scrabble or are they woefully poor WU scores? the syntax of your post has thrown me.
Tho' I have played against Jake Jacobs in a club game (on my one and only visit to a club) and lost narrowly in a 8-bingo shoot-out.
Some website updates -
1874 (a new solo PB) in Bonham's
FIZZLING (312) in Allander
SQUALLIEST (300) in Curlers
Interesting to note in the Allander that the itBox there had clearly just been updated - very sharp graphics, all the latest games (Boggle, Suit Pursuit etc), all scoreboards reset to default - yet WU was back to the old version, where the High Score option is down at the bottom of the menu screen and it has a much smaller dictionary so doesn't accept OAT, POI, DOXY, QUIZZERS (I think) etc.
Why would a sparkly new updated itBox have the old, shit-vocab version of WU?! Does the big vocab make it too easy for us to win money so it's been deliberately ditched? Or is this more likely just to be an anomaly in this one pub?

Bizarre. The new version has a prize structure more inline with other games, so should be better at keeping the percentage payout right. Why not try out some other pubs nearby and see?angie wrote:Why would a sparkly new updated itBox have the old, shit-vocab version of WU?! A typical Bobbing excursion took place in London. Brief highlights follow, ignoring the bog-standard Quizzicals and -ZZ words etc. See VB site for all new scores.
ARG/NFM (while CF eating breakfast):
* - Doric Arch, Euston Station - 2000 exactly [liberating from HullHull]
* - Globe, Baker St Station - 1957 [liberating another DaveJon pub], also 1240 on Boggle (record?)
* - Metropolitan Bar, Baker St Station - Quintessential 476, Guttersnipe 198
ARG/NFM/CF:
* - Hog in the Pound, Bond St Station - Psychiatrically 630, Tranquillize 528 [also, a mediocre clearance to liberate from HullHull]
NFM/CF (While ARG tramping it in Clapham):
* - Court, Tottenham Ct Rd: 1914, 2001, Stargazing 240, Proportionate 260, Polemically 374, Tranquilizes 480, Counterrevolutions 594 (new WR longest word)
ARG/NFM/CF:
* - Court, Tottenham Ct Rd: 1918, 2010, 2161 (23 word clearance) [liberating upstairs machine from DaveJon], Creationism 220, Appointments 264, Combinations 288
Also a 39-word-clearance for 1280.
* - Pint Pot, Tottenham Ct Rd: 1913, 1961, 1980, Tranquillized 598
Report:
After the initial get together, Bob went to go tramping around in Clapham and Battersea, neither of which had machines (at least, not that he could find easily). The original plan was that all of us would go, but suspecting the likelihood of time-wastage, Craig and EWQ went to DaveJon's best remaining machine, upstairs in the Court, where the target to beat was 2096. We didn't come particularly close, but got some nice words, especially COUNTERREVOLUTIONS, 18 letters, new record. Bob was gutted obviously. After Bob returned we beat the score with 2161 (5th best ever), which was made in only 23 words (record?), of which the best word was a paltry CREATIONISM, 220, which was the very first word taken.
To end the day we filthed 3 consecutive 1900+ clearances at the Pint Pot, thereby conquering 3 DJ pubs and 2 HullHull pubs.
Other notable points were PSYCHIATRICALLY, 15, 630, and 1240 on Boggle (record?). Also we managed a clearance on Word Wise.

crikey! well done gents.
obviously COUNTERREVOLUTIONS is phenomenal but GUTTERSNIPE gets a pass with distinction too.
i dare say Mr Bob wept into his cornflakes after missing that corker, and on DJ's turf too.
in other news, i found out that ZILLIONTH is allowed but cannot be pluralised.
la-la-la.

Just to prove, more to myself than anyone else, that it did actually happen, and spurred on by dramatic EWQ photo posting, I've tried to attach a belated photo of QUIXOTICALLY...
Judging by my struggle to use 'Quote', I'm not sure if I'm equipped to tackle 'Attach'...so if the file turns out to be far too big or in the wrong format or something, I'll delete this post tomorrow. In the meantime, here goes...
PS I added the massively less exciting QUIZZERS (304) to the Bar Radio scoreboard last night

I'm more interested in knowing who "GAGGY MCQ" is, and how he got his name.
You can only put a picture in the page if the file is online somewhere; you just link to the URL.
I added to the sudden glut of words beginning with P (POLEMICALLY and PSYCHIATRICALLY on Sat) with PRINCIPALITY.
Also in other news, MOTHERFUCKING is accepted on Puzzle Word.

The image must be available on t'Internet somewhere, then you simply use the standard Img tags * and hey presto:

* i.e. you type [TAG]http://www.fruitchat.co.uk/templates/su ... _phpBB.jpg[/TAG] using the letters 'img' instead of 'TAG'
