maygay eastenders power problem please help thankyou

hi guys would appreciate some help... i have an old maygay eastenders. it was working fine till i had to move house a few months ago. its been stored uncovered in the garage which although i guess got cold,nothing gets damp. well i managed to get it into the house but when i powered her up,only a few of the bulbs flashed and not very bright.none of the reels work and theres not even a loud hum kind of noise like when u first turn any machine on if you know what i mean..theres also no alpha display,just the few bulbs glowing dimley. im not electronicly minded im afraid lol . i looked at the green board thing behind the back door(think its the mpu board) the thing i did notice was is that there is like a row of red bulbs coming down then 3 red ones going to the left like the shape of a reverse l well the middle of the bottom 3 red bulbs i think is marked 12v plus. this is the only one not lighting. i also looked at the varta battery which seems to be soldered onto board which looked abit corroded on bottom but not that much.i tried cleaning it but have no means of checking as dont have any tester kit and didnt want to break it as had no idea how yr meant to get it off anyway.sorry for long essay guys.any thoughts would be very appreciated.im gutted as the newer machine worked but my eastenders is very special to me.regards.darrell

the gamecard may have came loose when you moved the machine, (a smaller green or blue card which plugs into the main board on the backdoor) , try re-seating it.

if that dont help, check the fuse on the power supply unit, (sits on the floor near the backdoor, big silver or black box) you will see four or five fuses holders than unscrew, check the fuses inside.

i wouldn't worry too much about the battery at this stage, as long as its not burst and leaked over the board.
it shouldnt stop the machine from setting up...

thanks alot buzzer,i was afraid as its just sat there unused for 4 months.theres obv some sort of power getting to it so il check what uve surgested. just wondered why the 12v plus bulb is the only one not lighting up?what is its purpose?

it should be lit m8 once set up.

when you power on, the leds should be on the way you describe, then you should hear a solonoid click from the power supply.
after that the 12v led should come on , the leds without power markings should go off and the machine set up.

i think anyways, these machines are very old, not seen one for many a year..

hi buzzer,sorry havent been able to get online... right you may just have narrowed it down abit so thanks. i had a fiddle around in the back this morning when all of a sudden i could hear a clicking sound for a few seconds,whilst this was happining,the alpha display lit up,no proper words but jst random numbers and letters etc but this is the first time that part has shown any life.it then went off and stopped clicking and hasnt clicked again.the few bulbs that lite up and flicker dimly do not always come on each time i power on so this is confusing lol.does this sound like a solonoid issue as i guess thats what was clicking briefly.if so,where would the solonoid be situated do u think?regards darrell

doesnt really narrow it down lol

could be anything really, what were you doing when it clicked?

ps alpha display showing jibberish is normal during setup.

infact its a common problem on these machines during gameplay also

theres 4 black cubes which have the reset counters and credir and payouts on them .these are located down near the bottom of machine.my freind was wiggling those and thereabouts before we realised what they actually were.could have just been coincidence i guess. but theres deff no sound of any power surge or clicking when u power machine on

there the meters, run off the 12v line, dont see how they would stop the machine setting up though

no me neither lol,just that that was the area in which we wiggled

well ive checked all fuses,ive found a tiny green board which says solonoid insulater but thats the only solonoid i can see unless its situated inside the power box its self.doesnt help that im so electrically enept lol.

your probably gonna struggle here, heres what i would do.

1: disconnect everything i could from the mpu, ie lamps switches,meters, mech ,m reels etc and switch it on.

if it try to start then i would plug things in one at a time to discover what was causing the problem.

if it not starting then i would try changing the power supply, then board then gamecard.

obvioulsy you wont have the luxury of spare parts lying around, and if you cant use a meter to check the psu voltages, i don't know what to suggest..

thanks buzzer,i really appreciate you taking the time to help...many thanks... right i will give that ago. i got the psu out and checked the relay wasnt burnt out as somebody surgested that on you tube but that seemed fine.i know it was working before i moved it so sliding and bumbing it along the carpet obviosly figures in why it doesnt now lol. i know that there has been a noise and clicking when i turn it on be it very briefly and that the alpha display also came on briefly so i can deduce that it must be a loose conection somewhere. i have a multimeter now so i will try to check to see if theres proper voltage coming from the psu power lead to the mpu .i know that if i pull the connector block from either psu end or off the mpu then the red led lights go off. i still dont understand why some bulbs can work and if there gonna work why the hell are they dim??? surely if they work then they work nobody told me this hobby could be so mind blowing lol

this might sound silly, but you power lead is plugged in fully?

i have had service calls before where the power lead is not push into the power supply fully...

just checked that but was sure it was ok but in swiviling the machine around to check it did the clicking thing and sounded like the speaker came to life briefly then nothing,no dim bulbs atall now so surely something is loose somewhere lol.baffling

gotta be a faulty power problem. even if you dont move machine and just turn it on and off at wall you get random bulbs flickering,sometimes a few,sometimes alot,sometimes none,sometimes a few etc etc etc ...

sounds like program/ gamecard fault to me
