My contacts in the metropolis have informed me that there is a new addition to the full time professional ranks of players..............

Haha. I'm not sure who you've been speaking to but I can confirm that nothing has changed about my status recently. I would class myself as a Professional Amateur in that I have a full time job (in the real world) but I do also travel and play quiz machines quite extensively as and when I have the time to do it. I have taken a much more committed and organised approach in the last few years but have not changed anything in that regard recently.
I do enjoy a game or two of Word Soup in each location and I can usually make scores at or near to the top of the leaderboard unless they have been visited regularly by one of the 'top boys' in the word game stakes so that part is at least true.
Funnily enough I haven't played regularly in many areas of London, particularly the centre, for a couple of years as I find enough to keep me busy elsewhere so if that's what you mean by 'the metropolis' then again your contacts are misinformed. I have however been exploring quite a lot of the southern fringes so that might be what they mean.
I always mean what I say when I post on here about the general state of the industry and have no ulterior motives in doing so. I can still do well enough to make the time and the travelling worthwhile but then I am aware of the level I have reached and the many years of hard work it has taken to reach that level. I am just constantly reminded of how unappealing so many of the games are to the general punter, with a level of difficulty that is completely outside their reach and often with prize structures that are simply pitiful. I also mean what I have said a few times on here about the general loss of machines - a key factor in being organised (as you will know) is keeping records of machines and locations and once it was clear to me that machines were starting to disappear more quickly than I had previously seen I added to my records the details of where a machine used to be (partly as a reminder in the forlorn hope that the venue will decide to have a machine again in the future).
You may however have solved a little conundrum that has been puzzling me for a while. Someone who travels pretty extensively has been posting mildly amusing insults in my direction as Word Soup usernames for a year or so. I would never dream of accusing anyone on here of acting in that manner but can I take this opportunity to say that it certainly wasn't me who posted a similar username aimed at you in one of the locations I visited in the last week or so? ;-)

yes my source is london based and is a semi retired player who has many contacts in the london area. ive no idea who told him you were now a full time pro.he doesnt contribute to this site but is interested on what your reply would be so i will update him with the correct info.he speaks to a variety of players that are known by contributors to the site and to one that actually appears on the site apart from me, from time to time.
