Million Pound Drop

Post by kong »

I was playing this yesterday and ran into trouble on a geography question:

Which of these is NOT an American state?

North Dakota
East Boeing
South Carolina
West Qantas

Not sure? Remember you can split your money...

You think that's bad? I had one the other day on this which asked 'Which football team are know as the Brewers', so the Million went onto Burton - but it turned out that the answer was Watford? They are the Hornets surely?

The neverending glee that is when quiz writers don't know the answers...!
As for Kong's question I'd have dumped the million on West Qantas. I never split lol

When I last wrote a set i'd made a couple of glaring errors (thankfully seen before posted) so it is possible for the odd one to slip through... The idea is that you write them, re-read them and get them checked, and i think they check a sample, and if they're ok (factually and grammatically) then it's assumed they all are and on they go... Not that i could explain how someone manages to get 2 correct states and 2 incorrect states in the same question though, that's rather amusing.

For the record, I also plumped for putting the lot on West Qantas. You'd have lost the lot too!

Now I've had more than 10 seconds to think about it, I've realised that I chose the more stupid of the two. I can't think of any American states that are "East" anything, so guess this was doubly wrong! Not that this excuses the quality control department...

Quizmaster, I think that the question probably read "Which football team were known as the Brewers?". I haven't had this on MPD, but can't think what it was on. Watford used to be owned by Benskins and were therefore known as the Brewers. They played in blue at the time - I think we are talking 1950's - so weren't known as the Hornets until they changed colours.

Indeed. Didn't know that. Still think it's a bit of a cheek though putting Burton in as well. Far too ambiguous.

arrrrrgh!

My logical guessing was due to Qantas being the Aussie airline so I thought it would have something to do with that part of the world lol

To be honest, where there is an answer which has an underlying logic behind it, I wouldn't complain, compared to some of the shit out there.
