Could the new rules on tax be potentially good news for quiz machines?
Recently there was the whole thing where they had to be skill based and couldn't be random to stop them being classified as AWP and hit with AMLD.
But if AMLD is going could that see quiz machines go back down that route?
Budget
I've heard the opposite view, namely that the new taxation rules will mean the end for quiz machines as they will no longer be viable - if you previously didn't have to pay AMLD on a quiz machine, and now do have to pay Machine Games Duty (MGD) on the net takings from a machine, they suddenly look a lot less attractive. However MGD will also replace VAT, which I presume is currently payable on quiz machine takings.
I guess the real answer is the old chestnut "It depends", i.e. some sizes and types of venue will benefit from the new arrangements and some will be net losers. Maybe one of the guys on here who run a pub or arcade would like to comment...

"Dutiable machine games
Machine games subject to Machine Games Duty (MGD) (dutiable machine games) will be those where customers pay to play a game on a machine in the hope of winning a cash prize which is greater than the cost to play. Where MGD is payable, it will replace both Amusement Machine License Duty and VAT."
..rules out most current games where you can 'win' 20p for a 50p stake.
