should have asked david and lesley to keep an eye out. but seriously, some of the guys on this forum travel a fair amount but afaik none of them care about/are good enough at WU to acknowledge it or this thread.

Yes it could be one of them, but I think they are mostly of pensioner age and can't imagine them in Via fossa. I know Clive Spate, the top player with the nomads was in the local Evening Post recently becuase he'd been made a Grandmaster Scrabble Champion of the World or something, and used to hold the world record for the highest ever score in one game of scrabble (over 900). They had some open day to show off to young players in town a while back.

Shame they don't read the forum, it might open up a whole series of challenges - a bit like when top snooker players play top pool players to find out who the daddy of all daddies is..!

I've asked Notts-bsaed Stewart Holden (who won a Countdown series and has played Scrab for the UK) whether he's a WU fan and he told me that he hardly ever plays it.

The top-rated Scrab player has played with us, and has started topping boards with 1600-1700s as BESI (he had a couple in Exeter and some in London) but, so far, has been focussing on boning Brainteaser and, of course, other Scrab players.

I would imagine that Clive Spate could get rather good at WU, given his super-quick braininessness.

The team are organising a weekend offensive (or is it an offensive weekend) in Notts as we speak - tis exciting to have such stiff competition turn up.

Feel free to inform us of any other good score/names in the area!

And abruptly off topic again...most Fosters/Carling style pints can be purchased with change from £2.50 round my area, though the winner must be a pub I saw in Bradford the other week advertising a 99p pint (though it didn't state that it was necessarily of beer).

In terms of Word Up, apart from a beautifully-constructed ZILLIONAIRE and a National High Score debut for the word LIQUIDATED, I've been as quiet as a 1920s film recently, and have yet to find anyone remotely suitable as a new teammate.

I'm looking forward to reading about the damage VBob has caused in Nottingham this weekend, but also to finding out if there really is another, as yet undiscovered, 2100+ team out there as indicated. Looks like Ernest may have plenty of updates for the score lists today.
