N95 8GB Battery/charging probs

Post by PMK »

Right hopefully a few technically minded people could help me on this. I've just spent the last couple of hours trawling thru forums trying to get the answer to my problem but can't seem to find a similar problem anywhere, plus I'm using an iPhone to browse tinterweb which is bloody time consuming!!

Anyway here is the prob,

The battery started to run down rather quick in fact just die even if I hadn't used the phone at all!! So I bought a new battery as I'd had the phone a while. But still the same thing happens.

I've noticed that when u charge the phone it never comes up with battery full even if u leave it over night. The battery meter just keeps goin up and down.

I've no applications open, WLAN is off I even switched Bluetooth off!! But the phone will die in hours after an all night charge even if not used!!

Sometimes it even says battery low after being on charge for hours!!

Somebody must know something!!!

Clarkey? U use these don't u?

Help me!!!

I got it when they first came out a while back, so doubt it's under warranty. I've registered on a nokia forum so hopefully they can help me.

But if anyone has any ideas.............

my 1st mk1 n95 started doing this, tried new batteries and stuff, didnt really help, but what i did do, which did help, was do a hard reset of the phone.

Before doing this tho back up everything you wanna keep coz it will erase it all.

to do a hard reset type in *#7370# and press yes.

Then after that, i hooked the phone upto my pc and updated the firmware using the nokia pc suite software updater, but depending on what network you are on or what software version you have, you cant always get an update on it, im on my 3rd mk1 n95 now and the first 2 i could firmware update, but this one i cant, odd.

I've got th 8gb n95.

I backed up the phone memory to my mass memory earlier, I presume that I can load back in all my contacts and messages after the hard reset? There is some stuff I don't wanna lose!!

Not sure I've got my old discs for pc suite tho.

Thanx for the advice by the way.

im not 100% confident that the reset wont kill your mass memory as well, so i would copy it all over to pc or laptop just in case, and yeh, the process is the same for the mk2 (8gb) as it is for the mk1 afaik.

its probably not a software issue, sounds like water damage or a bad connection to the charging intake..

if you lived near me id sort it for you, cheapest and easyest thing you could do is buy a screwdriver for it and simply remove the screws under the battery, open it up, dust it out with a static free cloth then put it back together, sounds like you've either got a speck of metallic dust or water in it shorting it out.

sometimes you can avoid taking the phone apart...
if you've been in a humid place or out in the rain try taking the battery off and leaving the phone in a airing cupboard or near a radiator for a few hours.
if you've been somewhere dusty put the phone in a sock and use a vacuum cleaner on it to try to dislodge any dust..

if it is a software fault you can download the software straight of the web ,you don't need the disc.have you still got the cable though?

ovi suite will check the phone and software version you need automatically.

Yeah still got the cable.

It can't be the battery, I bought a new one. Maybe I'll try the airing cupboard rip!!

There is another reset apparently, the reset of all resets. I could try that. Don't see how it could be firmware issues, it was fine for a couple of years!!

Thanx for the offer clarkey, but I'd probably make things worse!!

The reset code i mentioned, *#7370# is the BIG reset, which puts it all back to default and starts from scratch, wipes the lot, pretty much like reinstalling windows would do on a pc in a way, the other one is a soft reset, which does little more than change all phone settings back to default, the code to do a soft reset (which is worth a try, plus you dont lose data) is *#7780#

nah you hold down about four keys 3 power * and # or something along those lines? I had to do it once when my memory kept filling itself up for no reason.
