Barcrest/Red/Extreme higher stake, higher % payout
Higher payouts for higher stakes makes sense to me. Years ago I worked in a RAL arcade (for a few months, in between jobs), and certainly our machines were at set percentages, with the higher denomination machines getting a higher payback.
If I recall the percentages back then were around:
78% - 5p
88% - 10p
92% - 25p and above
I know we were set to the highest percentages in town. Other smaller arcades were more likely 78% - 5p, 82% - 10p, 84% - 25p and above - or similar.
We couldn't play our own arcade machines (obviously), but we were warned off playing in the pubs too. Not because they didn't want us playing - but because the percentages on ALL of their machines were at the legal minimum of 70%. Still, I used to see lots of people play them...
Online you get much better value I feel, certainly these days. Fruit machine slot payouts of 95 - 96% are not uncommon on the UK sites.
