Note Acceptor on a BFM Club Trick Shot

Post by reelman »

Can anybody out there tell me how to fit a note acceptor to this machine, or if I need any additional parts or looms. The manual says that it was designed to use an NV4, JCM or Money Controls Lumina acceptor. Personally, I would prefer to use an NV8 or NV10 as I believe them to be better.
However, I do have a working NV4 (Serial) with the appropriate bezel for mounting it. However, I am not sure if there's any pre-installed wiring that I hook it all up to, or if I need to get a loom from somewhere, and if so, where it would fit. The old Scorpion 4 machines also needed a "pic board" but am I right in thinking this has it built in, or would I also need that too?
Any help would be appreciated, and as I say, I would prefer to go with an NV8 or an NV10, so any advice on that would be good too, although I suspect this may not be possible.

Unless you are siting the machine then there is no advantage to using a modern acceptor.
NV4 and Lumina acceptors are much cheaper and easier to get.

Would be quite happy to use an NV4, as I've used them before on Barcrests, and found them very simple to use.
Since posting my original enquiry though, I've looked at the machine a little more closely, and there appears to be a pre-wired loom, already plugged into the CCTalk terminal of the Scorpion 5, which presumably means that I need a CCTalk configured NV4, of which I have no experience. The other end of the loom terminates in a white block connector, near to where the note acceptor would sit.
However, it also has a different number of holes, compared to the pins of an NV4, so presumably it's not been pre-wired to accomodate an NV4.

I suspect I will either have to change the loom in order to accomodate an NV4, or try to find out what it's been pre-wired for. As the manual only refers to 3 different note acceptors, one of which we've just ruled out, it can only be the loom for a JCM or Money Controls Lumina ~ any clues ? The block connector is a whitish colour, and a single row of approx 10 holes (not with machine tonight, so cannot say 10 for sure ~ I remember it was 2 different to the number of pins on an NV4)

I have never used a Lumina, so know absolutely nothing about them. Do these need to be cleared down somehow too, and the BNV code entered ?
Hope I have made all this understandable, and not just waffled ?
Thanks

NV4's are shit, period!

What connectors are there on the loom?
there's normally more than one

White connector 15 way (sinlge in-line)- NV4
Black connector 10 way (2 rows of 5) - Lumina
Black connector 16 way (2 rows of 8) - NV8/10
Black connector 26 way (2 rows of 13) - JCM

Also is it worth fitting one? how old is the machine?, older machines will just spit out change at you rather than giving credit,

Hope this helps.

I think I may know the anser here now ~ correct me if I am wrong. I believe there is a main harness with a 9 pin block connecter at the end, to which a universal loom/splitter can be fitted, allowing the use of various note acceptors.
It would appear that mine has the harness, but no universal splitter. It's a modern machine that I'm thinking of putting the NV10 onto, as it will give £2 credit for each note inserted, with the balance being banked. I personally think it's worth fitting if I can, and if it is not too expensive to do so.
Anybody know where I can get a cheap Bellfruit splitter from ?

By the way, you gave me some graet advice before about how to fit a JCM note acceptor, which worked a treat. It's getting to be a habit eh ? Thanks ever so much again for sharing your knowlede and wisdom.
