I don't think it's fair to lump 1vs100 and Golden Balls in with MHP here.Nil Satis wrote:think of games like 1 vs 100, Goldenballs, 50p Monopoly Hot Property (the £1 version being a bit better I'd say)
1vs100 is only really rigged for the top boys who can bash through a string of spoilers to reach the endgame - in which case it can and will protect itself with a sub-£1 prize (I've seen 50p and 75p a couple of times when I've got lucky with some inspired guesswork or spoilers that I happen to know). But for most players, the endgame seems reasonably fair provided you accept the realistic prizes are £2, £3, £4 and £5 (i.e. £10 is a rarity and £20 a great rarity).
Golden Balls obviously has a very obviously rigged "give you £40 worth of balls and then reduce that to £4" endgame, but once the player sees past that, I actually think that again it's a relatively fair endgame, offering reasonable prizes in the range £2 through to £8 with probably £3 being the most likely prize level declining from there (I've had £8 twice and £9 once and haven't had a £10 yet from it). I've not yet experienced a sub-£2 prize on it - I'd presume that £1 is the only possible such prize given that the game only pays out whole numbers of pounds, and I've not seen that. Presumably the game isn't vulnerable to that because it can make life a lot tougher than, say, 1vs100 if it wants (three wrong options rather than two and - to my mind - harder and more spoilers). I've fluked my way to a Golden Balls endgame a few times but have always got £2 I think.
MHP by contrast is a disgustingly rigged endgame, although is at least fairly transparent on the few occasions it's willing to pay a decent prize (I was interested to read the recent account of a £20JP on it, which perhaps justifies to some extent my questionable habit of investing the occasional 50p in this).
