This particular thread caught my attention whilst exceedingly bored. Any of you guys members / stumbled across it? (The site!)

CJ asking for help, it was a few years ago however, before season 2 of Eggheads... :o ops: 8)

interesting......... CJs specialist subject was the history of the world chess championships--being an ex-county player myself presumably CJ is a player of ability-if eggheads lists his full name Ill look at the grading database.

I've not played in many years but my last elo was mid 2100s which equates to BCF 190+. Had some good times when I was a kid :)

I believe 'De Mooi' is Dutch for 'the beautiful', and is not his real surname...!

Interesting re. the linkage between chess and SWPing illustrated by Cool and cp999 - I'm also given to understand that at least one other high-level top boy (often referred to on these forums) used to be a pretty good chess player. There's also at least one very strong player on the more general quiz circuit who came into it from chess, all of which interests me as on their face the skills are very different.

I'm prepared to admit to being an active user on the Quizzing.co.uk site - they organise the weekend quiz events that I attend fairly frequently (for example, the one at which I was doing battle with, inter alia, Kevin Ashman, on Saturday).

i have a lot of time for pseudonymity, by my reckoning CJ has picked a good'un.

that looks like a very interesting site: there goes my productivity for today. (not quite sure how i got so drunk yesterday, apologies. :o ops: )

re. the chess; stepping back from our common interest, there are some discernible similarities in the aspect of cerebral gratification. also it is a necessarily individual, introspective pursuit. but you need the patience of angels for chess whereas quizzifications are more immediate. (not that i have ever pursued either to any degree of adequacy.)
from the outside, i'd imagine there is a similar perception of chess and quizzing although having a stronger interest in one than the other highlights the substantial intricacies.
nobody ever wins on those things.

CJ is still happy to ask for help on most subjects other than chess and The Simpsons...

:) Isty - did you find anything of particular interest? I spent an unhealthy amount of my day perusing it to... :o ops:
