I've had another good look at this one since I posted this and it's exactly as I thought - it's another game that's tight in the extreme. It doesn't actually give you particularly dodgy cards in the three qualifying games but then it doesn't need to - it either gives you a succession of real spoilers in the third game or it kills you in the money game to ensure that you'll only win £1 or so.Nil Satis wrote:As far as my memory serves Play Your Cards Right hasn't been around before, which is very odd given how long it is since that show was at its peak! It is a standard Q&A game with the 'Higher' vs. 'Lower' sequences of playing cards built in. Obviously when it wants to stop you winning all it has to do is give you successive dodgy cards - "Lower than a King you say? Ooh, unlucky - another Ace!". This was certainly the case the first time I saw it, and I haven't yet found another one to give it another try.
As for this one, bloody hell! - has there ever been a mainstream quiz game which retreats into impossible spoilers so early on? Sometimes you are only three or four questions in when you are being asked about the flags of Burundi, Vanuatu and Kazakhstan or which of three authors you've never heard of was nominated for some obscure prize in the 70s.Nil Satis wrote:Rocket Ronnie is indeed Q&A. It starts off quite friendly, and may indeed offer a few early smallish wins on installation, but it rapidly gets to be as hard as any quiz game I can remember. I suspect your customers will find it very unappealing as even winning £1 will be a major achievement. It has the useful facility of a weekly scoreboard of highest frame scores and via that I'm not seeing it getting major play anywhere from punters, or indeed from the quiz machine versions of Ronnie himself!
The other new games are that Treasure Quest - how quickly can you lose £5? - and Cash Smasher. The latter is a non-Q&A game which I can see might offer a little value to those with very good visual recognition and speed but the purist in me hopes that, if so, it will be skill that conquers it rather than some weakness in the programming...
The games that are going appear to include Fantasy Football Quiz, 1 vs 100 and Are You Smarter. So nothing to miss then!
