Nothing much will change now that Obama is in. Why should it? America is doing very well out of its current policies, thank you very much. It still needs its oil and it still needs to rattle its sabre at its perceived enemies. War is big business in America, and the election of a black president won't make much differece.

I remember life under Thatcher and then Major and their recession was self inflicted. This one is a global recession and can't be laid at Blairs feet.

Personally I'd love to see a world government within my life time, especially a secular one but I'm afraid it's likely to take longer than that.

I never said they weren't undergoing a recession. But the USA is still by far the richest in the World (in terms of resources, influence and power).

The demand for arms has never been higher. And since a majority of arms manufacturers are based in America and have plenty of customers to sell to, despite the many business going down the pan, I don't too many will be arms manufacturers.

An interesting statistic I read on Wikipedia regarding countries' expenditure on "defence". (these figures are from 2006).

The USA spent a whopping 12.9% of its GDP on "defence". More than 5 times its nearest competitor..... the UK!

Mike: All this talk about New World Order - which I also get weekly from a pal (especially after a few Nelsons!) Can you actualyl tell us (me) what is so bad about it? So if the Royal family and Governments are all from another planet (literally, not just based on some of the comments they make!) what are they planning?
