WWTBAM celeb edition

Post by Drpepper »

hey, having finally made it to uni, we've been giving this a bit(for bit read lot) of play, and we are getting bored of it, we usually get to the 32k mark before getting greedy or get stiffed by the amusing farce that is the end game (who is the black and white photo btw)

What games suit a group of fairly intilleigent students, DOND didn't fit the bill, and it we play in york student union, so don't anyone worry aobut me stepping on your toes if you give away any gems lol.

regards

Two tips -

(1) Don't get greedy, i.e. stop going into the end game just because you get to 32,000 points. Have a go at a few of the slightly more difficult questions that will start to appear

(2) Don't give up on the photo game - there should be plenty of faces in there you recognise (albeit not your avatar, that ex-Evertonian scallywag!)

If you persevere in both these areas you should find you will get better, although if you are only playing one game on one machine your ability to take much of other people's money will of course be limited. York does have one or two other pubs remember...

As for other games to play, lots of students seem to like Monopoly but as I find that the quiz machine equivalent of a Fisher Price toy I couldn't recommend it myself. Just have a look around at lots of other games - you should (hopefully!) soon start to be able to distinguish the good stuff from the dross.

Finally the only B&W photos I can think of from WWTBAM are Tom Baker (ex-Doctor Who) and Clint Eastwood but if there are any others there are one or two people on here who will be able to supply their names I'm sure.

It's not even fifteen questions now - it's twelve questions (I think) and it doesn't (in my experience at least) sub-divide prize levels like previous incarnations have done. That said, it's got a good stock of pretty ripe spoilers for those later levels, to test even the real boys. It's a magnificent game.

I've certainly never seen Celebrity Millionaire split levels so that you have to answer more than one question.

P.S. Mr Picky says, "Are you sure it's not still 15 questions?"

Is that right? Jaysus, I'm so unobservant, I thought for some reason they had shortened it. <sighs at own stupidity>

ahhh... well a plethora of i phones, and the fact that 2 of the lifelines take all day to play themselves out will no doubt help us when we find our feet.

There could be some life in this yet.

Slightly off topic, but
I watched some of the telly show the other day for the first time in years and that has been dropped to 12 questions.
When did that happen?
Dumbing down or losing viewers? . . .both is my guess

Re the TV show - that part of it isn't actually dumbing down as the questions that have been removed are the earlier ones so you now go (I think) straight to the £500 question. I've never sat in the chair, although I do know a few that have, but for me the benefit of those early questions for the contestants would have been to 'ease you in' and hopefully get rid of any nerves. However as we all know they were pretty tedious for the viewers given their triviality, hence the reason why there were removed I presume, although not EVERYONE sailed through them of course:

As for the Celebrity game, grecian - you will notice I didn't come right out and accuse you of being wrong. I'm pretty sure that it's still 15 questions but can't get to a machine today to check and wanted to cover my back just in case!

Re the WWTBAM link you posted above Nil - haven't watched it yet, in a rush (spot more celeb bashing to do), but look forward to seeing it later - especially if it's the 'kangaroo primate' girl I'm thinking of who seemed not to care one jot that she was the world's biggest airhead. I can't imagine anyone beating her as the most clueless contestant the programme has ever seen.

Not her then, though I do remember that one.

Here's the one I was thinking of - 'kangaroo-primate' girl as I recall her, the embodiment of Ditz.

Nil, the third question in particular will have you in despair, not to mention her boyfriend's reaction who by the end can't contain his squirming any longer.

Excruciating to watch, from the off!! You have been warned.

although the questions on that were easy for us, the football and soap questions were not guessable. poor girl. air on a g string would probably sound just as ridiculous as the others if you didn't know.

it was endearing that she went on a general knowledge quiz and says each time that general knowledge questions are not her strong subject.
nobody ever wins on those things.

I remember that one! The funny thing with that question is that on a very early show there was a question for I believe either £500k or the £1m itself re which county cricket team play at Chester le Street. With that you could have no knowledge of cricket whatsoever and still know the answer depending on your knowledge of North East towns, whereas there isn't really a geographical clue in the name 'Everton' if you don't know your football - it is a suburb of Liverpool but no more than that, although I believe that ironically Anfield is in Everton but Goodison is not.

If you want the best (and funniest) examples of this phenomenon I urge all of you to listen to these at some point:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/fun/2002 ... ndex.shtml

They are genuinely some of the funniest radio clips you will ever hear and are guaranteed to cheer any of you up if you are feeling low.

(now that QM has taken over as the board's official Grumpy Old Man I thought I would become a source of sweetness and light  ).
