Gamesnet Version 13 - the shape of things to come?

Post by Nil Satis »

I bloody well hope not! By which I mean that I hope that the Gamesnet version 13 I saw yesterday is a one-off and not a true example of the next wave. The reason being that it had only one screen of games and that one screen included a grand total of 6 games:

- Goldenballs
- Are You Smarter
- Back 2 Skool
- Every Loser Wins 2
- Connect 4
- The Italian Job

Now I realise it's a little ironic, given how much I have rabbited on about the glory days of the old standalones on here, but I'd say it's a very sad prospect if that is what the best modern cabinet (in my view) has been reduced to.

Like I said, fingers crossed this is a one-off...

That certainly sounds pretty poor NS, although two or three of those games are above-average. One of my locals hadn't been updated for ages; it's now been updated to GN 13 and has a few of the games you mention on the front screen but the same old rubbish it's had for years on the back screen - most odd, and rather disappointing.

Seems to me that Gamesnet have always used test sites to poor advantage. It has never been a surprise to find a new menu that is completely unrelated to the general trend. It might be a cunning plan, or more likely, just for the hell of it.
I suspect that back in the annuls of history this company set up a 'Without Rhyme nor Reason' section and has simply forgotten to disband it. :D

I think Gamesnet's strategies are more akin to those of football referees. I am sure if there were crowds still left in Britain's pubs, the chants of 'You don't know what you're doing' would echo around Gamesnets and itBoxes with strange menus.

It was in a Hungry Horse pub on the outskirts of Swindon. They previously had two full-menu Gamesnets but have been done up recently and this one is all that remains. I have only seen one other example of the 'six option' front screen - at a pub in Portsmouth - but that had a second screen with a lot more games. Like I said, I'd hope this one is just an aberration not a true picture of what's to come even if (as Grecian noted) three of the games are above average - I'd no longer count Goldenballs due to the inevitability of the end game.

Indeed but they are usually good for a Gamesnet or two and as long as you can play without getting put off by the sight of people eating steak and chips from plates designed for three :? then there is money to be had from them.
