England 1990

Post by Northern Monkey »

The missus was out watching take that last night so I treated myself to a late night of real ale and watching New Order videos on the projector.

Got to World in Motion and it reminded me what a team that was or should have been.

They talk about "the Golden Generation" now but just the people featured on that video would wipe the floor with the current lot:

Waddle (former sausage factory worker and the most amusing stepover in world football); Barnesy (OK agree rarely reproduced club form); Beardsely (a Rooney of his era although slightly more handsome); Des Walker (probably the quickest defender in the world); Lineker( 2nd in the alltime scoring charts) and of course Gazza at the height of his powers.

Wasn't Steve Hodge a member of that squad!

Gotta agree with Peter Beardsley, I may be a Liverpool fan but without bias, this guy was THE most under-rated footballer ever. Handsome bastard!

Leicester's one and only...Lineker, 2nd only too Charlton in the goal scoring stakes, also Shilton, another one of Leicester's finest....wish we had him between the sticks now :(

It was great to see Peter Shilton successfully score a goal in the Soccer AM end-game today.. what a 'keeper he was.

Hells Bells went mad! :)
