It's annoying how often coins land on their 'edge' so that they do actually roll. Can't think of a time where it has just landed flat, leading to a simple bend and collect routine. 
Horrendous carpet patters, as mentioned, are also a chore. Wooden floors lead to coins rolling for a seemingly endless duration. If you are near / in a busy part of the pub and you drop a coin, might as well just write it off...

I have found myself doing the 'mad juggler routine' whereby a coin slips from up near the entry slot, bounces on the machine, I try and catch it but just succeed in causing it to bounce elsewhere, reach for it again and punch it into someone's pint!
