PAY UNIT ERR 17

Post by JG »

This is actually a slightly odd query in that it relates to a real machine. I have a Grand Golden Game (Scorpion 4?) that pays out £3/time. On pressing collect it paid out two coins as normal and there was a slight gap, only a slight gap, whilst the hopper whirred and then the LED came up with PAY UNIT ERR 17 and alarmed. I didn't hear any stutterring from the hopper and it didn't whirr for as long as it would do when empty. After the slight pause it went straight into this alarm. It definitely has the funds in to pay.
Switching the machine off, opening it up and shaking the hopper have not cleared the alarm on reboot. I'm assuming pay unit relates to the hopper, but have any of you clever people got any ideas on what to do to clear the alarm and allow the machine to be played?

I know this happens in emulation at times and usually, it'll go away after while, not quite sure of the trigger, although going into test and testing coin payout will sometimes clear it, but not always. Sometimes they just disappear after a few minutes, other times they never go away.

Cheers,

prob a dirty opto or jammed hopper....turn the wheel by hand to eject a few coins then try it.if not empty the hopper check for odd/bent coins and clean the opto..the alarm wont clear unless you reset the ram but when it comes to payout again the fault will still be there

goldens used to do this all the time.. damn error 17 - fired things right up for me back when I was about the only one doing them... calling the attendant over so that they will see you always seem to have a large bank !

back in the day, they used to have 12 sets of GG and a few red hot x's all within walking distance of each other. I played them exclusively for 6 months every day, alternating 6 sets a day.

Easiest cash I ever made.. until error 17 put paid to it.

gg' s are notorious for going wrong ,along with the error 17,you get reel problems, error 203? and resetting tops on a hell of a lot of units. mazoomas usage of the cheapest components can't help, just one example of this is the shoddy connectors on all the wiring harnesses

depends on which chip, on the original cabinet ( £2 payout) if u left it for a minute it would be ok and stop alarming. and start taking coins again.

usually its a hopper jam . wasnt too much of a problem on the p1- p3 as u were never more than 20 behind, to get it going.

but on the latest , can be a bummer if waiting for the squeak and your a ton in which 3 pots to follow. ive had to write off 000's . very annoying if u cant go back for the machine.

As above, have you checked the opto?
