Playing for your average punter
The trouble is we need to 'level the playing field'. There used to be an abundance of casual players to fill up that Extreme or Pie Factory, now this is diluted massively by the advent of FOBT, on line poker, B3 £500 jackpots, on line gaming/betting. There were enough casual players so that there was more chance for other casual players. Now machines which are 'doable' seriously run the risk of alienating casual trade.
Who wants £60 worth of £2 boards?
At the end of it all if you remove the carrot, even the blindest of donkeys will go elsewhere eventually.
The casual player will still migrate to the s34 AWP which appears to give some playability.
It's a point I've made before, but we're talking about PUBs. This is light entertainment, not the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo. A chance to win or lose a few pints.
An ideal machine would be Duff Beer Guide, £5 jackpot. Enough skill to give a slight edge, but frequent boards and entertainment for everyone. With what is quite a complex genre of game, you'll always get a certain edge for some people, but hey, that's true with many forms of gambling.
Vivids were really were the player edge went too far. I bet many dead Vivids caused casual players to go elsewhere and I also bet many haven't returned to play a fruit machine since.
If I was a pub landlord, the last thing I'd want is a fruit machine where some scoundrel could manipulate or force out a series of big wins at the expense of my regular customers.
I'd have Duff Beer guide, Each way nudger mk2 and maybe a £5 DonD for example.

Fruit machine manufacturers have got too greedy in the last few years! gone are the days where £3 gets you on the board an hopefully a gain, wots next in the pub?? a £1 a go !!??!! i say bring back 20p play;£15 jackpots in pubs!! at least then they were worth playing and it offered a board more often!!!
insert 20p to play

Saw some poor bastard playing a DOND HOF that was clearly doing a heath ledger impression yesterday.
Cost him £10 for a board. He had 2 phones after nudges, which he exchanged over, with the third phone which he was clearly never gonna get at £3. Obviously he lost going higher than a 3.
Another £8 or so went in for the exact same thing, in the end the poor sod lost about £40.
Times are bleak nowadays if you're not in the know.

A hotel where i live has three public bars - in total 2 £35 and 4 £5 jackpot machines. All the £5 are constantly in play, fair to punters and as you say providing entertainment for those who want to play. Compare this to BF, and latest crests which on 50p can eat £20 without a board. I think the industry would do much better with a backward step to 30p play £15 jpot. Hopefully machines would see much more play thatway; whilst still being profitable for the players.mr lugsy wrote:it's been said before ,but here goes anyway.
it wouldn't be the worst idea for pubs to put a few 5pounders in.
i'm talking about the type that give a nice size run of course ,joe average would get a nice little play out of for his shrapnel, might even make a few quid now and again.i'm sure they would get more put through them by casuals aswell.you could also get 30-50 quid results.i'm not saying this would be all that beneficial to you guys out there who demand 105 tops and stuff ,but you wouldn't be 200 into one and stressed.hits would be more frequent aswell.
the heat factor would be lessened too for you.
