Can't find the old WU thread, so I'll just make a new one

Ah OK, I did wonder if 2444 would actually be the very highest.
I assume that getting higher totals, as well as simply clearing at all, has been made easier by the increased dictionary used in WordSoup? Presumably there were times in the past when you were on for a very big score but were unable to get the extra 500 points for clearing, whereas now even I can clear regularly given the ridiculous non-words you are allowed to play when needed.
Now that we have established that 2444 is not quite the highest ever score, I'm happy to reveal that the venue was a pub called 'The Old Black Bull' on Friargate in Preston. It usually keeps a fine collection of real ales to accompany the Gamesnet if anyone is ever up that way!

I think the Word Soup word list is slightly smaller than the WU Grandmasters one, but the game does allow 15+ letter words where WUGM didn't.Nil Satis wrote:Ah OK, I did wonder if 2444 would actually be the very highest.

Why would it have been necessary to conceal the identity of the pub if that had been the topmost score? Am confused.
I was only being vaguely mysterious as I thought that if someone was going to come on here and claim the anonymous top score then they would need to prove it by stating the location. As no one has come forward, it's either someone who is one of the regulars from here but who hasn't had a look at the forum this week, or someone who doesn't read these pages - the mystery Northern culprit you mention perhaps.roberto la vigna wrote:Why would it have been necessary to conceal the identity of the pub if that had been the topmost score? P.S. In case you are wondering how I saw the top score in the first place, it stemmed from being a little put off by being asked to get 2425 for £1! As this was the highest initial target I had ever seen by a margin of around 500 points, I thought I'd see who had caused such carnage.

We're quite happy to believe that the score is merely a figment of Nil Satis' fevered imagination, just as DMAC is thought to have dreamt the 10050 Word Blox score after an especially heavy night on the tiles in Glasgae.Istenem wrote:I'm impressed with this mysterious stranger, have any Bobs made a recce?

Why I oughta....
If the Gamesnet machine in question hasn't been reset I'll see if I can take a piccie of the said score next time I'm there.
As for DMAC, his exact words were:

Given that it was (a) Glasgow and (b) a Walkabout he could have meant anything - pints, scars, fights, ...dmac wrote:saw 10050 in Glasgow Walkabout yesterday
