gadget show test

Morning all !

Did anyone see the Gadget Show last night ??

They have set a test up online to find out exactly how many megabit's you get from your service provider.

Im with Tesco at the min and they offer UP TO 8MB.

I did the test at 10am and the result's i found were quite shocking.
Even though it was quite early, i should still be getting more megabit's than i expected.

My download speed was 494kbps and my upload speed was 254kbps.

They said on the show,if you stay up till 4am,this is the time you will get more megabit's and it also depend's on how good your cable's are and how far you are from the provider.

I'm with SKY and I pay £10 per month for upto 16MB, yet last time I looked my upload speed was 7MBish and my download speed is around 6MB. To be honest it means nothing to me, but I'd assume the speed is quicker when there are less users online.

As I have a router I can in theory use my PC, a laptop and play on Xbox live at the same time but would this cause serious internet connection problems (speedwise) and/or would it caues 'lag' on xbox live. If someone in the know could answer my question I'd be most grateful, cheers.

Itsme, your download and upload speeds do look slow but no doubt your cotract will say upto 8MB, you should expect more for your money though.

I think this is what the idea of the test is.They want to see what people's speed's are and compare them to what the service provider is offering.
Hopefully something will be done about it.

My download speed was 3909kbps and my upload speed was 344kbps.

what does it all mean tho?
