You know it's not going to happen when......

Post by Rougebooze »

Afternoon all, long time lurker first time poster;

Was playing the usually dependable DOND yesterday and did well to take 3 and a half quid out of it at a fairly high 59000 points target. My reward for this was the jaw-droppingly huge (and previously unseen) target of 93000 points, considering the same machine can reach the pay stage with 18000 points I found this somewhat of a prohibitive measure from Edmonds and co. and was wondering what other signs there were in other games which basically raise a middle-finger to the player and tell him 'not today pal' ?

Welcome, friend! Always good to have a new member! ;)
93000
Crikey! That is one unheard of target. I also hate the way that this game tends to suck you in on your first 50p or so with a reasonably easy target of circa 20000 and if you foul it up, it shoots up to the heady heights of 50000+. :(

You're playing well to get thru on 59,000. I've seen a 90,000+ setting as well and the first thing it does is knock out the 250,000 box.
Stupid punters. Telly all the week, screw the wife Saturday

Generally I think the methods used, along with prohibitively high overall points targets, are removing the 250k points box within the first five boxes in a given round, and (to a lesser extent) introducing the spoiler selection set. I say to a lesser extent the latter as in my experience it's possible with a bit of luck to get through to the endgame past a few spoilers if the target is reasonable and it's removing low boxes.

You also know it's not going to happen when Bully gives you a target of 801. I didn't even know it went that high until last week. :shock: The highest I've seen on DOND is just over 70k.

In that situation the game is normally really nice: it doesn't make you answer four questions to eliminate the 250,000 box. :D

I'm sure 'traditional' Bully could 'offer' 901 as a target, with constant 25's for the bullseye. :(

I've always thought it'd be interesting to see what the targets would be set on these games if you could nail JP for say four / five games in a row, and really see how nasty they've programmed 'em. :shock: In other words, is the programming completely dynamic, or is there a 'hardcoded' upper limit?

re bullseye, i'm fairly certain i've seen 1001 on it. a long time ago mind.
thing is, the questions are all easy so big targets just waste your time rather than prohibit winning opportunity.
of course there are some stinkers but not nearly as many as some other games
nobody ever wins on those things.
