Is there a DoW scoreboard Hornby? How does it score you? Or do you mean that space invaders thing? Congrats on your good work on Countdown in the Fleet Street area by the way - I was admiring an almost fully Hornbyed Countdown scoreboard this lunchtime.

I've played a bit more of DoW over the long weekend. On one occasion the machine was paying and I took £9. I had 2 tries again, a bonus answer and a pass (from memory) and the spoilers were less frequent than usual. Lots of prizes and I didn't need to get that near the centre for my £9. Does anyone know if, when you reach the centre, you get the jackpot plus whatever you've won on the way there or whether you just get the jackpot? DoW advertises itself as having a £20 jackpot so I'd suspect the latter. Anyway, on all other occasions I was struggling to get much above £2 so I suspect that either the low hanging fruit's all been taken from this already or only some locations have been set to pay out initially. I didn't see the question repeat trick again and from my experience it doesn't happen if you reach any cash prize (i.e. most games).

At risk of straying off-topic I'm less convinced with Alien Attack I must admit - a fun game with nice gameplay but I've yet to take more than £3 (and I've only done that once). I tend to find that the game goes into spoiler mode pretty promptly once £1 has been won and doesn't give out enough truly useful bonuses to compensate (most of the bonuses last so briefly that they're of little use).

Finally I'm starting to come round to QuizMaster's way of thinking re recent machines. On Good Friday I played four ItBoxes in one area of London and on each one won c. £15 from c. £3 investment basically by playing all the useful games on each machines. Didn't get any massive wins but a series of £2-£5 wins built up the cash. Not that exciting and worked out at only about £8 per hour less drinks expenses, but I for one couldn't have managed a sustained afternoon's winning like that in 1998.

No - I didn't get anywhere near leaderboards on my first exposure to Deals on Wheels this weekend as you might be able to tell (!) and I was up in the North West anyway. It may be someone else being insulting about Everton in general or my 'tag' in particular - I use EFC on the few games I bother with that have a leaderboard which only allows three letters - Hangman mainly but also Football Crazy, Stand and Deliver, Strike Bowling Quiz (where it still exists) and so on.

I did once have a weird time on the Strike Bowling Quiz at the pub by Reading Station where someone who could post good enough scores to make the Top 10 took great delight in posting juvenile insults as their username - 'EFCISGAY' and so on. It was always childishly amusing on my part to better their score in return...

Oops sorry Nil - that was me in Preston last week. I've only just got back from a road trip. Didn't want to let the grass grow with this one.

Had a £20 off an Alien Attack in Carlisle the other day - got 'Double Prizes' bonus, which doubled all the prizes on the winplan. Managed to nuke my way to the JP.

played this again last night. i think it may have been updated, im not sure. it gave the same set of questions again, but once you reach a cash amount (20p for example) and continue, but then lose, a different set of questions comes up. which is an arse. will have another go tonight to confirm.

Based in Grantham but tend to do most of my playing across East Midlands. Went up West coast last week since the whole point of a road trip is not to do it in your regular haunts - can pick those off anytime. Anybody else round my neck of the woods? I know Pete is but he doesn't post on here.

Two questions -

(1) Are you any relation to the soon-to-depart Margaret Hilda Roberts?

(2) If you were in Preston why did you leave the Gamesnets so untouched? I had my most lucrative weekend for 2 years mainly from playing the two or three games on those that are still worth playing.

1/ No I'm no relation to Mrs T.

2/ Didn't do the Gamesnets purely out of time and motion. Really hadn't got time to be pissing about on them.

3/ Used to bump into the Grimsby lads a fair bit. Mick hasn't been well for a couple of years (hope you're getting better Mick if you're reading this) and Steve's gone back to playing out of Brum.

Not me - never done any machining in the East Midlands, actually, and now I know it's QuizMasterLand I won't bother!

Finally had a go of this the other day and once the euphoria of having all the same questions again wears off the game itself I reckons fails the Millionaire rule of thumb that all new games must pass in my eyes ie how many q's do I have to answer to get a mighty quid. Whereas milli still averages about 8 DoW seems to stretch it out to 20-30 for a mighty 20p, or a quid if you're lucky.

Unless I was playing one Quizmaster had 'mtied' already of course, which given I'm based in Notts is not that unlikely...!

Fair enough. I pretty much gave up on ItBoxes a couple of years ago and have rarely seen any reason to change that. It seems like our mutual exclusivity is both geographic and machine-related so we can both continue to thrive (occasionally in my case!) in peace.

I work in Reading but am originally from Preston and am back up in the North West for Everton games.

London isn't too far from Reading obviously but I only have a few places where I play there - I find 95% of pubs in London now have either:

- nothing at all or
- a crap machine (Paragons, the one that all the London Walkabouts now seem to have whose name escapes me) or
- ItBoxes, which have been great in the past but nowadays have only one or two games that I find worth playing

Add to that the numbers of players competing for the same 'pot' and I tend to avoid the place if I can.
