Pre-Grouping Extremes

Post by no name »

In general, what were the Extremes like before the company was taken over by the Barcrest Group?

I didn't really start playing until all the bubble clones appeared, but have only seen and played one old-skool Extreme, and I think it was Jolly Roger (or something like that) which had some sort of guaranteed win feature on it (a bit like 'Bank It' on Powerball etc) and it was in a similar cabinet to Impulse machines (like Gridrunner, Full Moon Fever etc).

Well, I know for sure that I liked their first couple of machines, they were brilliant for big £75+ streaks.

Crazy Ca$hino (I think that's the name!) was great fun and so easy to read if it was ready to go for the 'EEEEeeiiiiiinnnnvvvviiinccccible!' run!

Be good to see some pics of their older machines, not sure if they're on their website though? :(

The 'racing' themed one (I can never remember the name of that!) was also pretty good, as there was the first version of the 'nudge rip' on this, whereby you could manipulate it to get the top.

Jolly Roger could also go big, but was quite often difficult to read, as the cashpot would frequently go £15+ (but not activate it) and this could go on for at least £50 or so before giving in and letting you have the three chests.

Beanstreak and clones were not quite so good, but could still do huge tops if you caught them right, they just didn't have that much playability... :(

Viper Jive was the first Extreme I ever saw, a true classic.

I don't care what some people say, the old extremes were absolute belters. As MV and streaky have said, Viper Jive and Cashino were immense.

I also adored Noterunner/Beanstreak/Jolly Roger/Super Pool too, and used to make a killing from them 2/3 years ago. Haven't seen one in yonks now, they've all gone to £5 decals, old arcades and seasides i think! Not seen a £25 one in the wild for a good year or so.

Viper Jive = IMMENSE.

Much preferred the companies before they all became barcrest. Can't wait to see what impulse come up with. They were my favourite manufacturer.

Spin on it anyone?

Impulse did do some good games, as you say. (Wildfire / Spin On It / Flashback) Let's hope they don't just release 'clones' of other Crest Group machines, a'la Maygay and actually come up with something based on some of their older machines.
Anyone remember Spin 'n' Tonic? I found a 'method' on those to get you the three red 'baby bottles' for the top streak. It used to go heeeyyoooggee!!! :) :) :)

bubble and squeak was great for me, super duper= :D also loved viper jive and note runner but found they got tighter with every clone like bean streak then later twenty-five, well that was the case for me. also liked bank raid that was a clone of note runner but a maygay. had my first £100 top on this style of machine from only a couple of pound in. made something like £96 in literally 3 minutes

there was also screamin demon that was good so i heard but never played it personally.

DOUBLE EDIT: took out some spelling mistakes

Don't worry mate, don't care about pics i'm sure itl be on that players heaven site soon enough.

Couple of things you might be able to help with though..

1. Did it look like a shitty clone of something? and

2.Impulses always had the best artwork, was it particularly striking, in the same way old impulses were(If you know what i mean.)

it is in a genesis cabinet i think [is that the square looking one used on older barcrests?], and it looked like a clone of JTRAR, it has that square board with the arrows that take you too the next zone. tried a board earlier and died almost straight away so walked away. as for the graphics..... nothing special IMO.
