Optimistic, unlucky. It is in the OED though, along with all sorts of other similar shite. We recently had MONKEYPUZZLES disallowed.
As I said before, to make a picture appear properly in a thread, you need to have it online somewhere, and link to that address. So my suggestion is get yourself a free website from somewhere, and put all your pictures there. Perhaps even construct your very own ANGIE ANDY site, for all your Glasgow WUing needs. Or become an apprentice and learn the magic.
I don't want to wear out my powers too much, but just this once...

Highlights from a brief solo WU session in Glasgow tonight were -
1819 and EXPLICITLY (360) in Yates' and MILLIONAIRE (308/11) in Curlers
- plus, somewhat eclipsing all of that, the Man U v Chelsea of Word Up highlights, I finally got my first QUIZZICALLY (616/11) in Curlers but then went way above and beyond the call of duty by converting it into an astronomical 2153-point clearance!
Which, by my reckoning, puts me above all bar Dave and Craig and possibly 'WORD UP' into P3 or 4 on the all-time WU solo scores list.
I was positively agog to look up with about 16 highly clearable tiles left and see the score creeping towards 1600 - already, with all those tiles still to go, it was unchartered non-cleared territory. So there was a bit of pressure on the I- and U-heavy endgame, which was certainly relieved a lot by getting UNI at a crucial moment.
The feat (word and score) have been photographed on a dire camera-phone but are basically illegible so I'm hoping desperately that there isn't a machine reset or replacement before I can get my camera down there!
Anyway, I'm pretty excited by all this, though with such a massive improvement in personal best all in the one go, I should maybe be tested for performance enhancing drugs!
PS on the game after the 2153 (where I got a 1394NC with BEB shuffling to BEB again instead of EBB), the £1 mark was at 2050 or 2075 - has anyone ever seen it higher?

Good stuff Angie - take it you located your mojo then.
I had a couple of lacklustre sessions earlier this week in Southampton - only chartworthy effort the less than spectacular UNQUESTIONED, but also had similar experience to Angie and Zax by jackpotting with a derisory 1150 odd. This was the game following a lowish clearance - coincidentally or not, the only other time I've seen the prize increments so close together was also the game following a clearance.

i'm all in favour of the <1000 JP, in theory it means that 2nd division players keep at it.
after Angie's heroics i concentrated yesterday and had a few results.
a 2066 with scoringest word IMPOSITIONS (<300) so the aggregate must have been pretty good, also there was a pleasing finish with CATNIP.
i also got my N~. it is probably hugely sad to have looked through a dictionary for likely starters but that's what i did. notwithstanding unlikely NEURO~ compounds i had in mind NIGHT~, NATIONAL~, NECESS~, NEEDLE~ and NORTH~ and NORTHERNERS was there. hurrah! only GKXY to go now.
other highlights were the ghastly plural EQUILIBRIUMS (444) and the beautiful 11 COMRADESHIP.
will PM Ernest with the whys and wherefores.
la la la.

nobody ever wins on those things.

I can assure you UP that this theory is correct
I think as well its the fact that 2 players can play at the same time equally badly that keeps me and mates pouring the dosh in for you premiership moneybags. Though should advise you that any machines where the quid is at 14-1500 or over are quickly ignored. Youll have to bring the prize down yourself..!

Just a couple of after-the-lord-mayor's-show scores from today - INEQUALITIES (396/12) in Hengler's Circus and ZILLIONAIRE (385/11) in The Hall, both as ANGIE LIAM.
I'm not sure 2nd-division players should be holding their breaths for a <1000 JP, I've never seen one, and the 1150 JP I got was a total one off - my only other JPs were 1850 and 2000.
PS Good work UP, 2060 is very solid and I'm anticipating you, Bob and EWQ will all be challenging and may well pass my solo total in the next month or two. Jonesey also seems capable of 2100+ so here's hoping we have a battle royale for the lower placings in the national top 10 scores at least (it'd be a herculean effort for a solo player to top the 2300 mark surely?)

It's not really down to effort though is it? If you're going to get a score that big you are likely to need a 500-600pt word, and decent average with the remainder, or a grid full of Zs.
As for the 1000 pt jackpot, I have seen it a few times, surely it is just a way of enabling the game to be tighter at the other end of the spectrum, so it doesn't get too badly humped by any pros.

Bear in mind that your score was a bit of a Fotherz-style large word anomaly, so I wouldn't get as full of yourself as we are just yet.angie wrote:Good work UP, 2060 is very solid and I'm anticipating you, Bob and EWQ will all be challenging and may well pass my solo total in the next month or two.

Bob, I'm not sure that saying I expect you, EWQ and UP to pass my score in the coming months comprises being 'full of myself'! I'm more surprised than anyone and fully appreciate that it was out of the blue.
If I'd wanted to claim some sort of superior WU skills to you then I could have said something like...yes, the score was a bit of an anomaly because I hadn't got the QUIZ...LY word before, but presumably you've got the same word plenty of times before solo, yet haven't managed to pass 2150 yet. Which raises the question - is it better to be consistently >2000 but <2150 or, for one glorious game, to be >2150 and into 7th place on the all time list? :P
As it is, I know for sure that I won't be able to deliver 2000+ scores probably more than 2 or 3 times a year at best, so I will no doubt revert to the odd 1800 and 1900 and watch the 2153 slowly drop out of the top 10. But it will still be there until some of you guys go and beat it, and I'm looking forward to see if this spurs any of the players/teams to greater heights - it can only be good for the game!
