you can never take a wage like that at face value unless your status is single with no dependents or savings. In high unemployment areas there is little point in offering any more since state subsidy will make the household have a far higher income than the wage income.

but its not just 8p more, 30hours means you into WTC, so 30*6.19 +50ish WTC = 235.70 divide that by 30 hours and the hourly income is already 7.85 a hour.mr lugsy wrote:8p per hour more than NMW to listen to edmonds sound bites 40hrs a week. belinda carlisle was bang on the money.
So in effect if your over 25 the NMW is £7.85 and only taxable on the 6.19. which is about £6 tax and less than a £5 NI.
Its the reason there are NMW jobs and then not much in between till you get to skilled £10-15 and upwards.
