This appeared on a box near me a couple of days ago. Since I have a few quid of itbox''s money from previous tournament forays into Pyramids, thought it would be worth the investment of a few pounds.
At a £1 a go, it's a trifle steep compared to other games, but then I've been playing Merit tournaments for years and they've always been £1 a go. Most of the new Merits are £5 a go now, so I tend to stick to just the one box in the same location and battle it out with the gaffer. He tries extra hard against me since he knows what I do in other pubs.
At least this one is offering a £2k prize and plenty of prizes in the 00's.
The game is just normal poker except you can fold your hole cards from what I can see. You play 5 hands against what appears to be a varying number of computer opponents and the trick is to try and keep doubling through - not an easy feat 5 hands on the bounce. I managed it once in about 5 games and ended up scoring 23,000, which surprise surprise, meant I just missed out on the Top 100 and any potential loot.
What was a nice touch was that the box gave me a ticket with a sign-up code for Party Poker for $100. Obviously you have to put some dough in of your own when you sign up (I put £150 in), but sure enough they gave me the $100 and told me I'd gotta play 400 cash hands, but this is pretty much the norm in my experience of the laddies and william hill poker sites.
The main benefit from what I can see is that I've been playing online poker for a couple of years now, and I've never come across so many fish as there are on this poker site - i won the first 2 tournaments I sat down in without even breaking sweat.
Free Money? Discuss.
Soz for the long post but thought it might be nice to get back to actually discussing games on the forum rather than playing pub quizzes against each other and the endless wordup posts.

This game isn't even really poker thought. The only way you can do any good is by constantly betting your maximum and hoping you win. You only get to bet once - after the flop - so it doesn't resemble true poker at all. Basically the game is....
Skillstop (and its quick and not very responsive, so hitting it on t
he card you want is difficult) a position in the deck to start dealing from. You get shown the deck, and then it gets hidden. This basically means that if you have the brain of Stephen Hawkings, or a Sun Supercomputer, you can work out what the next three games of poker will give you. Right, now for the game....
Here's two cards - do you like them? You have three folds, so if you run out, you HAVE to like the two cards!
Right, you like them, so here's the flop. Now you have to bet (up to half the chips you have).
The turn and river cards are now dealt automatically, and the winner is announced.
Thats it. Its boring. It looks nice. I can't really say anything else. Its not rubbish, its not crap, it doesn't look awful, its just not really poker
But then, poker isn't skill, so it couldn't be an SWP if it was just true poker i guess.
Ho hum
