On a slight side note, when jackpots have increased almost 5x in the last 8 or so years, are the machine companies and pubs really that naive to think that having such a huge financial incentive to win a jackpot doesn't mean people are going to spend more effort learning how to win on them?

Pubs that have a good earner - Ill go out of my way to keep gettin away with it, I disagree with sir rath, I'd rather waste an extra tenner a week over the bar if it gives me more chance of bein allowed to keep goin in, I even go there and NOT play the machine just to be recognised as a regular. Couple of pints and a bit of food are WELL worth it in the long run. I'm good at not getting barred.

The coke brigade and the fuckwits that don't even buy a drink are the ones that will lose out in the long run.

No u can't eat and drink in every pub, but u can rotate the best hits round and round.

Simples.

this goes round and rouns and round,
we can try and understand it, and debate it...

but in the end the answer is the same,

most staff/landlords kick you out/bar you because they dont want people using the machine in the way you do...

if i ran a pub, i would definitely bar anyone who seemed to be a player..
i think in part, it would be jealousy that you were making free money, but in other part, it would be to keep the regulars and 'normal' punters happy..

normal customers are likely to stop playing if they reguarly see someone win large amounts, people who dont really 'fit in' winning jackpots, and dont forget, you might not be trying to arouse suspicion, but there will be a few visitors to most pubs who come in and check the machine, over hte years, this has involved someone ordering half a coke and keying the machine, or "just checking to see if bob is in today" in an out-of-town accent,

landlords got wise over the years, and can now tell you out of the crowd..
the best business practice for them is to not have the money leave the premises too quickly... if that means barring a few people who are not really in this catogory, then theres no big loss to them, as they will get the majority of players and a few innocents..

I wonder if anyone who does'nt have a clue has ever walked in a fire pub and got a GATW for £70/£140 off beer change and got barred? I can think of a few places i've been barred from that just don't tolerate outsiders winning, you will get barred on the spot or turned off on you whilst on the board, bang out of order! Someone could be genuinely clueless and have a nice win and get nothing but shit over it.

I wonder how many times the pluggers and barrers have been on the receiving end of right proper hiding from doing it to the wrong kind of person?

I don't think many times. I don't know, never having done it myself, but I'd imagine most people doing this would be 'hardened' characters themselves and could handle themselves in a fistfight.

One thing that always surprises me is landlords don't really have any fear barring someone. For all they know, you me or the next player could turn round and kick the shit out of them. They seem to have no fear of this, which surprises me.

I'm probably thinking of the same person here.
Was it the same guy who got threatened by the barstaff that if he didn't leave ("fuck off" I believe the actual term was), then he'll "go and get Jeff".

Five returned and he literally threw them round the bar.
He got nicked, but no further action taken.

I was in a flaming rat-hole on Monday for half an hour before playing the fruit. Eyes like laser beams in the back of my head. Comments etc.

Now, this is the only time you'd prefer NOT to get a drop-board. Thankfully it doesn't. As the light was off from the start I leave the £1 stake pot til next time.

The woman's face behind the bar was like }:@<

I change the coins up and buy a drink for her and the guv'nor who appeared
from nowhere, and talk about nothing.
Things get better and end up on first name terms.

Just got to remember the next time I go in there my name's "John".

Yes mate, the very same I was referring to. So many pubs I go into now are the same, it's awful. I very well know the feeling of actually hoping I DON'T get an icons board...madness isn't it.

If you're ever round the Caterham way and you fancy a bit of fun, check out the Tally Ho. I put a little story up in 'fire pubs' about it, not a pleasant experience. You'll make good on the ESB but just make sure you have your wits about you!
