Reel Error 23 - Cops n robbers

Post by reg »

Hi

Have powered up my club machiine (cops n robbers) for the first time in ages and it displays "REEL ERROR 23". The reels do not spin and the machine clicks every second or so.

I have removed the reels and checked that they are not jammed in any obvious way. They all have their red LEDs working.

Does anyone know know how to fault find this issue?

Many thanks indeed.

when reel is fitted to machine and the power switched off, can you turn it freely with your hand?
Sure the opto isn't hitting against the reel tag? or a lampholder fitting not getting caught in the drum?

if you can check loom going from MPU to reels. any visable breaks or loose pins?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions, yes I can turn the reels freely. There is some resistance but as they are connected to a central motor I believe that the reistance is appropriate. Do the motors ever need oiling? If so what type (WD40 or general purpose oil such as bike oil?)

I have checked lamps and the opto (I assume you mean the small U shaped device that 'controls' the reels' positions) and nothing looks or feels (or sounds) out of place.

I have also checked the loom and no visible signs of damage.

I will check all of this again.

What does the error message actually mean? Does it specify the actual reel number i.e. 1, 2,3 or 4 or is it generic encompassing any/all reels?

Is there a master list of error codes or an engineers' manual for this machine?

Many thanks in advance to you all.

usualy the alarm will give a reel number

do any of the reels attemp to set up when you reset machine?

if not, check for a loose pin on the plug to the MPU
or you could be missing 24v from somehwere
(24v only powers reels, so is only thing it would affect)

not sure how old your copps and robbers is.. is it a normal bellfruit cabinet or a back door opener?

if it opens from the back, check fuses inside power supply

Hi

The reels make a very slight jolt on power up but do not spin at all.

I do not know the age of the unit. It has a regular key at the top of the back board which hinges on the right.

I will check the cabling as suggested and fuses.

The alarm / error code simply states "reel error 23" so again, I don;t know if that means the entire reel assemply or one specific reel.

Many thanks Reel King for your replies.

Any error codes on a BF machine starting with 2 are the reels,
23 is reel 3 and where to start looking.
Check the plug to the reel is fitted correctly as it is easy to miss out one pin on those plugs.
