Trivial Pursuit

Post by tka »

I've never paid much attention to this but I went to some random pub today and TP was the only game worth playing after the normal £2 off Bullseye. After one restart game I won £8.

The cashpot Q was which of these is the real gorup

Breaking Watermalons
Squashing Pineapples
Smashing Pumpkins

Not very hard!

I might play TP more now.
No wonder I drink!

I did use my Try Again killing the obvious wrong answer in case it was a trick and to make sure of the win. But for £8 It was easy money.

I had a result on this the other day - £4 off of first go... :) Can you only continue your game once?

Also, is there any noticeable difference in selecting a 'wedge' that has more cheese in it at the start? Other than that it's mildly easier to get all the cheeses?

:)

TP seems to vary so much. I've found that it usually takes £1 (1 shot and 1 continue) to win anything decent but sometimes it pays out a decent whack fairly easily.

Not something I would play regularly but for once in a while it's okay.

Hi all,
With a bit of perseverance and knowledge of when it's going to pay TP remains one of the last reasonable payers out there and as I'm feeling generous I'll tell you exactly how!
The payout signs are quite obvious and as alluded to already, having more than one cheese at the start is quite a significant sign.
Far more significant signs are starting with more than the one 50/50 you normally start with.I've started a game with a pass, 2 50's and 2 roll 6's all of which=i am desperate to pay.
The payout can also easily be determined by the amount of coins per question. One coin per q and you're going nowhere, conversely 4 or 5 coins per q and you should be on easy street.
To answer one specific point you can get another continue from the bonuses.
The bonuses will only let you use them once incidentally or the next time you land on them you'll see that infuriating roll again. If you're having a particularly good game and you take the sixth bonus one of the options can be to replenish all the bonuses so you can take them all again.
I've had £10+ out of this countless times and the only strategy you really need if it's in payout mode is double pot.
If it wants to pay it'll happily double away- it's quite exciting seeing your £9 doubling up! Incidentally the pot goes up in £1's the whole way although i've never gone past £18 so i don't know what the jackpot is.
One thing to watch out for is a tendency to offer what looks like a decent game then to suddenly shut up shop while you go chasing the good game again but if you persevere you can generally get your money back.
I think that pretty much covers it but i'd be happy to respond to any specific points and can anyone confirm what the jackpot is?

Nice one Foxy. As you said it is pretty easy to tell if this is going to pay out. It is all I have played since and I either loose 50p or win 4 quid or more. Has it got two sets of Questions? An easy set and a hard set? Because if the 1st Q is easy the rest are too. But if the 1st Q is hard then you might as well play Fun Towers.

Agreed. This is one of the last remaining proper games in that you can't expect to win every time but if you do catch one in paying mode then you have a fair chance at winning a decent prize. It doesn't seem to move into spoiler mode on these occasions and the easy question that tka had for £8 isn't unusual in that the Cashpot questions seem always to be taken from the same pot as the standard questions.

The jackpot is £20. After the Cashpot has reached £20 it sneakily continues to show you the usual 10-50p per question but the coins do not get added to the pot. I have won this a few times but a win of say £12 is just as satisfying, especially when compared to the 90% of complete dross that is out there nowadays.

The only point I would add to foxy's comprehensive analysis is that you can tell when your time is nearly up. This comes when you start getting self-generated questions of the type:

- How many years were there between Book X and Book Y?
- What is the total length of River X and River Y?
- What is the total length of Film X and Film Y? etc...

Once one of these appears you need to try to get to the centre to collect the prize if at all possible - you may get a few more fair questions but another one of these will soon appear to kill you.
