Manager's Choice seems to have gone though, which means no Cryptic Clues. Unlamented by many, of course, but I for one will miss it, and I suspect dmac makes two.

I am sure i saw this on an indie the other day.
Does anyone know that both Gamesnet and Itboxes games are now put together by the same people except you will find them on gamesnets first.

In which case, is there any out there mourning the old word game called Bookworm? If so it turned up on a new Gamesnet I saw last night, in what seemed to me to be a relatively unchanged format apart from a £1/£50 option. Other than that, the games selection was completely awful - if the laws are indeed changed to remove games of "skill" as opposed to games of skill then they will be completely and utterly up the creek. As therefore will be the ItBoxes if what you say is correct.

It would be nice to think that the ItBoxes would then reintroduce the three or four decent games they have stripped out of this utter turd of a new edition but I fear not. As for the Gamesnets I'd say they are already beyond help - from market leaders in games selection to the Fisher Price My First Quiz Machine in less than two years is some achievement!

I suspect I wouldn't be the only person who wouldn't mind another go on Bookworm.

Indeed. Even a word game novice like me won a couple of £2s on the 50p version and £6 on the £1 version, although I suspect both were in 'kind mode'. The tricky part for me was knowing how much time was left on each round - you almost need a second player just to keep an eye on that!

What I would say is that I have seen this dreadful new Gamesnet edition in quite a few places but this was the first one with Bookworm. I am happy to PM anyone who wants the exact location and can get to the leafy suburbs on the edge of North West London - I wouldn't cross a crowded pub to play any of the other games on there...

Had a mooch through a newish Gamesnet menu the other day to see if there was anything of note.

There's yet another attempt at a DS style Brain Game based on some fictitious doctor/professor. Nice looking but comprised of basically two disciplines, namely can you add up and can you do wordsearches/hangman. Or rather can you add up until it becomes physically impossible to enter the digits in the time allotted.

Played a John Parrott's Sports Quiz as well which is basically a sports rip of Hi Spy. I might normally have a look at this sort of thing but it doesn't look long term to me, judging by the inactivity of the scoreboard.

The John Parrott game is indeed a rip-off of Hi Spy, but it has almost certainly been produced by the same people as the Ronnie O'Sullivan Rocket Money game, based on the scoreboard process at the end. It shares with Rocket Money a complete lack of understanding of how to grade questions according to difficulty, with the first two or three being trivially easy before a sudden lurch into the most difficult questions imaginable - the last time I bothered with it, these were the last two questions I faced:

"Which of these three teams' games in the whole of the 1980s produced more draws?"

"Which of these three teams' games in the whole of the 1980s produced fewer goals?"

This was only about six questions in on the £1 game, well before the first prize of £2 had been reached. These questions seem to be designed to defeat even those with access to Google on a PDA, but giving you them before you've even doubled your stake is just ridiculous. This one will last about as long as Rocket Money and for exactly the same reason.

Yes, I found it impossible to get much out of this, what with having to double two digit numbers at some ridiculous rate.

The title and artwork seemed to be making some kind of play on gonads.

For those who are interested, the Moon Under Water in Leicester Square has a peculiar quirk. If you play Family Fortunes, you're presented with the years-old Q+A game instead of the Hangman version. The machine also smells of rotting groceries.

I think the hangman version is pretty good.

(Except for always giving the lowest prizes first in the endgame)

I enjoy family fortunes. Not really any money to be won from it, but you can often easily claw your 50p back. And it's good fun to play.
