What is the diference between these 2 types of machines or are they the same thing?Somebody was telling me that they are license'd diferently, is this true?
Also anything you can tell me about either of these types of machines would be most appreciated. In particular which ones to stay away from.
Club Machines & £250 jackpots.
I think they're the same... anything with over a £75 JP is classed as a club machine and they're only allowed to be sited in 'member' areas like snooker halls and working mens clubs... but saying that i don't know why they're allowed on ferries, unless offshore rules are different, anyone?
But for some reason a £500 S16 can be played by anyone in an arcade

i *think* this is closer to the truth, probably not all correct, but close enough to keep people sane through trying to work it all out by reading the gambling laws in full:fmw wrote:I think they're the same... anything with over a £75 JP is classed as a club machine and they're only allowed to be sited in 'member' areas like snooker halls and working mens clubs... but saying that i don't know why they're allowed on ferries, unless offshore rules are different, anyone?

section 16's are covered by part of the gambling laws that state you cant win more than £25 per 10p "game" on a machine
section 16s pay out on a basis that you are playing 20 different machines in one go, they can be sited anywhere that has a premise's licence instead of a single licence per machine.
normal machines from 0p-25p play to £0-£8 top prize are licence exempt and can be sited anywhere with permittion from a local council
normal machines of 0p-50p & £8 to £25 can be sited anywhere with an apropriate licence and permittion from local council
75 - 250 machines can be sited anywhere who have a site licence for GAMBLING covered different type of legislation, mens clubs where you have to play an initial fee or bingo halls where you pay to get in etc..
higher jackpot and play machines £1 play £1000.£2000 jp have to be in a licenced casino with memberships and a release on memberships (thats why you have to sign up 24hrs before you go in)
ferries and are off shore, once you are a certain distance out you are no longer IN the uk, you are in the territory of the uk, but it is not governed by the gambling laws as it isnt on the UK mainland and isles. customs and exise run the fruitmachine licences, and there duristiction ends a certain distance away from the island.... so, ferries can run higher stake fruitys and i dont think they HAVE to have ANY kind of licence whatsoever...
