Anyone know what this is about!

Post by stewy »

Don't know if anyone can help... Probably seems a daft question but nethertheless something i have always been interested in...

Licensed betting offices always have their windows blocked out with the latest promotions / stakes etc... I assume this is to stop children from being encouraged to enter etc.

I have also noticed that a number of AEC's or amusement arcades often have a number of items in the window (i.e. electrical items such as toasters, kettles etc / ornaments.) These items either have a price attatched in small writing or a sign somewhere saying these items are for sale.

Is this some way of getting through a licensing loophole by offering some items for SALE rather than as PRIZE??

I know most of you probably walk past this to get inside but does anyone have the answer?

Cheers, Stu.

As far as i know its illegal to 'promote' unethical activites to children which is way the windows are blocked out. (This also applies to porn shops, if you noticed :) ). As for the toaster thing, i dont know. I've never seen this...

Yes, that seems to be the common sense reason but it's this selling of items displayed in windows that i'm interested in.

Gott abe a way of getting through some sort of loophole. Tax, licensing etc...

Out of the two arcades in my town, one has no windows whatsoever and the other (nobles) has it's windows full of weird ornaments, no prices attached though, have always wondered why.

I'd always assumed it was connected to the bingo in some way, but on reflection its not only seaside arcades obviously.

It does actually seem like the most random thing ever now you think about it
