I espied a 6 seater table which was being played 2 handed. NL 0.10/0.20 on William Hill. I sat down and instantly the other two players sit out. So I stood up. Another guy takes my place and so I sit down again in another sit. Now all three sit out.

I ask why everyone is sitting out. They say 'go away, this table is for our mates', I respected that wish but pointed out they could get private cash game tables if needed on William Hill. Also I didn't bother pointing out, but if you have a wish to play a private game on a public table, why not get everyone to sit down together?

What's the etiquette surrounding this? Both in casinos and on line?

I would have just sat there until someone sat who would play.. Purley to piss 'em off, but thats just me :D

As you say, if they wanted a private game they could have made one away from the public tables.
