Does anyone play in them?
I got roped into playing in one at the pub I play pool for......sort of wish I didn't bother now. :-(
It costs £15 p/w over the duration of 12 weeks. Half the funds get paid out on the night and the other half goes towards a 'grand finals' night. 12 of us signed up on the first night and we were committed to the full 12 weeks - which is fair enough I suppose. £90 goes to the 'final' pot and £90 gets paid out on the night - £60 to the winner and £30 the runner up.
Now, the guy who runs it allows randoms to enter as and when with no commitment and their £15 gets paid out on the night, but they aren't allowed to play in the finals night.
Well 3 weeks in and only 8 turned up last night (out of the 12) and we had 2 randoms. I was told if all 12 never turned up on the night the winnings would still be the same for the night (£60/£30) and the monies shortfall would be chased and put towards the finals night. So last nights payout should have been extra because of the 2 randoms i.e. £80/£40 or a 3rd place payout.
Oh no. The winner won £45 and the runner up won £22.50....wtf!!! I came 3rd, but I questioned this and said it was out of order with the reponse 'it'll be made up to them'. Bollocks I say, somethings wrong there. I genuinely can't see the full £1080 being in the finals pot at this rate and don't see why I should be 'committed' to bullshit.
The missus says I should jib it as theres no value but I don't like letting folks down. The only way I would jib it is if I get told I'm expected to pay the full £180 whether I play or not. Then they'll get told to fuck right off!!!
What would you guys do?
