mpu4 problems!

New here, but great site.
Got a pile of dodgy mpu4s. Most dead totally and some that bang the payout solenoids for a second on fire up.
Most or all have battery damage, have tried replacing batterys without success.
Is there a common component that fails that produces this?
Pls keep simple i am more electrical than electronic!
Any help appreciated.
