I was given a Barcrest Club Blackjack machine for Xmas - it doesnt take the new 50p's - whic is not really a problem - however I do have some questions

When I enter a 10p into the machine this is stored and paid out on any wins. When I put a 20p piece in it drops right down into the bucket below. Therefore NO 20p's are ever paid out on wins

How do I get the 20p's to stay in the machine like the 10p's do and for the machine to pay them out on wins?

Thats because your machine has a £1 hopper and a 10p hopper like most machines do, therefore any other coins apart from these have to go down to the cashbox as the hoppers arent designed to pay them out. As for the machine not accepting 50ps, if you have a look at the side of the coin mech there should be a sticker saying what coins the mech will accept, if 50p is on there then check the connections and also open the side of the coin mech and give it a clean, if it still doesnt work then the coin mech has probably packed in

I wonder why the £1 coin didnt pay out ( it didnt drop down into the cash box ) or do you have to have so many in there

It will hold pound coins till the hopper is full then they will drop down to the cash boxes like the 20p's.

So it wll never pay out £1 coins or 20p pieces - only 10p pieces? Bit pants that have to say - how the hell did the original pay out - it has a £40 jackpot - surley it wasnt all in 10p's?

The macine accepts 20p coins but these drop to the bucket below so are never paid out

It accepts £1 coins and this does not drop down into the bucket below but is held in the machine with the 10p pieces

However I have had a couple of wins over £3 and the pound coins did not come out - only the 10p's

If its the Barcrest Club Blackjack Im thinking about,then its the old back door opener and has payout tubes not hoppers.If this is the one then the faults will be most probably down to faulty tube sensors, and the coin mech will be so old it will probably not be programmed to take the new 50p,(mars 111)I would suspect.
If the tube sensors are not working correctly the machine will attempt to payout all wins in the lowest denomination coin, IE the 10ps.As the faulty sensors will register as tubes empty to the MPU even with all coins filled.
As some club machines were fitted with two tube sensors on each tube,one at the top and one at the bottom,When both faulted the machine registered as empty with the faulty bottom sensor stopping it paying out that coin,and full with the faulty top sensor causing it to redirect coins from the coin mech down to the cash box.

Look at the sensor on the £1 tube then put the machine into test mode and onto switch test press the sensor in and if you dont see a response on the display u know its faulty and as for not taking 50p the machine is so old it wont unless you upgrade the coin mech.

Really havent got a clue what to do - as explained previously - 20ps are accepted and drop right to the bucket below. 10ps are accepted but are stored somewhere in the machine and this is what is ALWAYS paid out - always 10p's. £1 coins are accepted and like the 10p's are held in the machine - but these have NOT been paid out on any wins???

As suspected the old tube machine.What you have there is three payout tubes, the blue is for 10ps, the yellow for 50ps (probably the old 50p coin)that will be why your coin mech will not accept the newer 50ps.The violet tube is for £ coins.The machine cannot be made to payout 20p coins as they are programmed to go from the coin mech down to the cash box and are not needed.The 10p,50p and £coins are used for payouts and should all fill into their respective tubes from the coin mech.The machine has to be floated with a minimum amount of coins to payout,so make sure the pound tube has at least £20 -£30 pound coins in to reach the sensor level or it will continue to pay all wins in 10ps.The tube sensors may look similar as shown in this picture, and will be attached to the payout tubes with a black rubber band.Make sure they are fitted and correctly positioned into the slot cut into lower end of the payout tubes.
