Resetting machine

I know this has been mentioned before but i wonder if one of you lads could clear this up for me.
I have a machine that is set to pay out at 70% but to me seems to be paying out a bit too much. Quite often my mates will play this machine as it is in my games room at home.
I am well aware that if i was to play a good few quid off on the machine and JP it once or twice this would result in less payouts for other players but i want to know if there is a way to 'reset' the machine so to speak thereby lowering the payout percentage.
don't know if i have made it clear what i am trying to say but any help is appreciated.
would pressing the 'hoppers topped up switch increse or decreae the payout or not affect it???

Pressing the hopper top up or resetting anything will not bring down the % payout. As you have the machine on a very low 70% setting to start with and it appears to be paying out too much, then the problem may be the battery on the MPU has failed. This battery maintains all the machines settings including electronic metering and % when switched off from the mains,if it has failed then the running % will be cleared every time the machine is switched off.
When the machine is switched back on it will payout quite regular to build up the actual % it has been set at ie your 70%,when reaching its target the machine will then run as normal until the next time it is switched off, then the cycle starts all over again.
The faulty battery is a common cause for high % payouts

Yes, you will see a small, normally green battery on your machine main board, you need to carefully desolder the battery off the board, and simply replace with a new one, making sure it goes on the correct way round. Does this will have also cleared the machines RAM (memory) which may result in the machine alarming when first turned back on, and also will result in the machine paying out genorously until the % target has been reached. Hope this helps

On the flip side it could be a blue coloured battery as most older machines still have fitted due to incompetent owners/engineers too lazy to keep them replaced when the machine was in service and as manufactures instructions recommend.
The said blue battery will be totaly shot by now, not only letting the machine run at a high% payout, but leaking acid over the M.P.U.damaging every component in its path, not to mention lifting the tracking off the board, which also can break away with the desoldered battery.
Depending on which make of machine and M.P.U. the battery is not easy to access(mpu 4 for example),No problem for the skilled engineer but a nightmare for the novice with their first machine and little or no technical knowledge, the removal of the M.P.U. will be a task on its own let alone getting to and replacing the battery.
Be Warned those not sure seek a skilled person for this type of work.
battery????

The best way to test if the battery is 'holding RAM data' is to switch the machine on as in normal play put in some credits and then switch the machine off, leave it for about 12 hours then switch the machine back on if the credits are still there then you know the battery is fine if the credits have gone then you either need a new mother board (about 25 pound) or replace the battery

If the battery had gone flat then the machine would alarm on start up with the RAM ERROR MESSAGE, also his volume would default each time.

not if the machine is data prom rather than e-prom ie using a M1A or M1B MPU board

Getting back to the original question, i think what stewy was asking is the same one id like to know.
Im in the army and ive bought this to put in the block i live in to make a bit of extra cash.
As i was trying the machine out, i was trying to win the jackpot by gambling everything and collecting nothing (Forcing) i think you call it.
Now i have got the problems sorted, im ready to let the lads play on it.
Problem is, i never won the jackpot and its not payed anything out but took in about 400 quid.
Naturally i dont want someone putting a quid in and raking the lot, so is there anyway to reset the machine back to an original state of mind so it dont think i must pay out i must pay out.
Thanx for any help
