bell fruit , snakes & ladders , notes not working

as above ,had my snakes and ladders machine for a bit now when i got everything worked fine , now it will not let me put notes in , the hopper levels are fine and when i unplug the note reader the mechanism works does it need reseting in some way ,any help please someone must know
