Scorpion 4 board flashing red

Hi
I've got a club crazy fruits machine that seems dead. The psu lights up, the scorpion board shows 4 green lights and a flashing red light next to the red reset switch. If I press the reset button the red light stays on then when released starts to flash again.
None of the lights on the machine light up aside from 4 little red lights on the reels.
Where turning the machine off there is a kind of zapping / squelching noise - just 1 noise that lasts a couple of seconds.
Nb. No battery leakage and the gamecard is present.
Can anyone suggest where to start with this.
