Can anyone help me with a Maygay King of the swingers issue

Hi all some advice needed please with regard to a Maygay “King of the swingers” machine I have been given.

It is a little poorly to say the least, when I plug it in I get a few random lights on the front and a little ticking sometimes but nothing else. different lights when the power is cycled.

All the lights on the internal board are lit and the battery seems sound no leakage. All fuses checked and good.

Where would I start to diagnose the problem? I do not know the history of the machine but I can see it has done the rounds and is replete with “John Smith” beer mat addition to channel the coins into the hopper. But that said it looks in fairly good dry condition.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if its just been moved , check the gamecard is in correctly

OK so I re seated the game card and still get a similar result. I get a good vibe off this machine, I do feel it wants to work! My gut says a power supply problem but all the lights are on (on the internal board) and as stated all fuses checked so I am at a bit of a loss. After re seating the game card the lights behind the reels try to light then fail (flicker)

What is the routine for diagnostics? anybody know? I am thinking you guys must have a checklist of sorts you run through.

not entirely sure which machine it is.

is it the old maygay with the board on the back door?

could u post a few pics of it?

So this morning I plug it in to take the photos of light to post and for a brief moment I think I am on a winner as 50% of the fascia lights come on, then it died again

so attached are three pics, the outside, the inside and a closeup of the main board. I notice now that I only have one light on the main board which is the left of the three lower (its hard to see coz of the flash) could this be a further sign of power supply failure?

yep, most likely the power supply.

in that situation this is how i would have approached the problem:

1 check the program card is in correctly
2 check the wiring power wiring loom (thicker cable runs from power supply to main board, these were prone to heat damage, specifically the molex plug on the power supply end)
3 replace the power supply
4 replace the board

now, you will probably struggle with options 3,4 as i'm guessing you don't have spares kicking around, also that technology is obsolete nowadays.

the pins on the power supply where the wire loom plugs in are also prone to dry joints, might be worth taking the power supply apart and re-soldering what u can...

Right, that is a plan of attack I can work with! I have a soldering iron and am fairly proficient I will remove the power supply check for dry joints and dead components.

One thing though, there is a molex on the power supply but nothing is connected to it? Should there be? pics of the lower case attached (inc one of the cat that seems to like it in there)

OK so all connectors checked and seem ok, on closer inspection the battery was dry but there seemed to be minimal dammage to the board. I replaced it. No change in behaviour!

The machine trys to start and utters a sort of repeated sort of "Errrrrr" buzz for a second but no joy.

There are red lights on all the reels and sometimes almost half of the lights come on, reels facia etc. But still no joy.

The +12v LED comes and goes, it seems to be half lit and then dims out when the machine "buzzes"

Any suggestions as to a next move greatly apreciated.

u replaced the battery or the board?

your next step would be to replace the power supply. there is no real point in metering out the supply as it trips under load when faulty. (and can give the symptons you are experiencing)
next step after that would be replacing the board and gamecard proms.

something else u could try.

all the plugs on the board are mark what they are coinmech, reels lamps etc

disconnect everything except the reels , meters and power loom.

see if the machine sets up.

could be a fault elsewhere that is pulling down the power supply.

if it sets up you can connects plugs one at a time until the fault reoccurs.
help narrow it down alot.

sounds a bit of a mish-mash, I am trying to to think of suggestions that don't involve parts, as u might struggle to get a board or supply for that machine...

Yes I replaced the battery, I will try pulling all the cables except the reels , meters and power loom and see if that tells me anything.

Then I guess a powersupply but I have to say it looks extremely healthy.

Just out of interest how would one go about replacing gamecard proms?
