CMS tic tac toe sound fault

Hi, I have an CMS tic tac toe machine with a sound fault, I can adjust the volume via the test key, but when it gets to level 10 and above I just get a high pitched screech. Below this level it disappears but the sound is then too quiet. Any help appriciated thanks.
