Help required Mazooma Italian job Scorpion 5 Reel 1 error 21 message

Hi All

I recently purchased a fruitie off of a company on a well known auction site, this is my first
foray into having a fruitie at home and it is sitting in my garage, All was well until a week
ago i got this error 21 message which in the manual says - check reel opto.

basically the 2nd and 3rd reel spin when you turn the machine on but the first one does
not and the alarm sounds, I must admit it looks inline (not wonky) and things look plugged in and
I tried turning the reel a few times, but as I am a complete novice when it comes
to the intricacies of fruit machines, any help would be greatfully appreciated

Swap reel 1 with that of reel 3, and see if the fault moves to position 3. If so, then the reel itself is faulty. If not, then the fault must lie elsewhere.

Spent a fruitless hour on Sunday trying to work out how to change the reels, unscrewed 3 screws from side of 1st reel and it moved around in its mounting but wouldn't come out, then found out how to move the whole block of reels from the machine but still dont have a clue how to take a reel off, i did notice though that the first and second reels spin with no noise but the first one makes a sound thats not apparent in the other two.
