Hopper Dump Button not working?

OK Question number 3 lol...

I am trying to 'dump the hopper' which i think resets it and lets it know there is nothing inside it so it doesnt try to pay everything out am i right??

Anyway, i am pressing the hopper dump button for all my might and nothing happens. Do i need to press it at a certain point? enter some sort of routine first or something? I have a bad feeling that there is a broken wire or soemthing somewhere which god only knows how much effort it would be to find that!

Its a Global - Spotted Dick Club machine.
